Impulse purchase
Hello all,
I just wanted to let you in on my impulse purchase that I made a few weeks ago. Having owned LR products for two decades I'd been in and out of love with Defenders and the latest, a 110 double cab was not making me happy. Love Defenders, hate the discomfort.
Anyway I had popped into my local specialist to view a D2 to make winter driving less of a cold and miserable experience. The D2 was the same drive as a previous D2 and despite the leather seats I wasn't inspired. Then one of the guys who runs the place said had I driven a D3? "I can't afford one I said".
He threw me the keys to his TdV6 and sent me for a run. Well, I was bowled over! Completely understand what you all mean by permagrin
Got back and announced how amazed I was, but gutted cos it was more than I could afford. The chap did some maths, and told me what the deal would be. Because Defenders are holding so much value I got an offer I couldn't refuse. So I bought me a shiny silver TdV6 SE manual
I love it.
It's an '05 with black leather. I've added a Mantec raised air, lightguards, soft a bar and some 20" RRS Storm alloys with Cooper Zeon LTZ AT's. She's done a mere 104k and came with a full service history including a brand new service with both belts done. I know it's a bit high miles, but apart from the worn sticky steering wheel, you can't tell she's done the miles.
I'll work out how to host a pic at some point, and I'll be looking at adding stuff when I've got some cash back in the bank

I hope you have many years of enjoyable driving (won't be trouble free as you'll know with your history of LR's )
Send TLO (The Large One) at Yeovil LR a PM as he will get you a nice soft leather steering wheel for about £140, makes a huge difference to the rubbish original. It's also easy to fit (especially if you have help from an experienced member) One Wife.......Livid
BAS Remap, RLD Sumpguard Side Steps, A-Bar and LR Driving Lights - Just a start but more to come
1984 Series III SWB on the mend and getting better
Welcome; looks smart!
And if you arrange to pick up the pieces ordered from TLO on 2nd November, there's a pub meet nearby - see this post - to meet some other local members.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Firstly BIG thanks to TLO who sorted me the Mantec raised air, the roof rails, centre caps and blame him for the badges (although I think they really set her off). Need the lettering to finish the a bar.
Good tip on the steering wheel, although I'm tempted by one of those lovely wood & leather ones you can find on ebay - might get a knob to match
Anyway, couple of things have tempered my delight over the last few days. First was reading Will Hays thread about buying a cloned car. What a horrible position to be in. Really made me go cold as his was the same colour/spec and around the same time as mine.
Secondly over the last few days the gremlins have sparked up. The key fob lock/unlock has gone very random requiring several attempts. Despite reading the manual, breaking the cap off the passenger door lock and buying two uneccessary fob batteries from the local garage, I'm still none the wiser.
Finally this afternoon the park brake gave up with a loud squeal and a lot of chiming and bonging and alert messages.
Fortunately it's under warranty so it can go back. I guess this is something I'll have to get used to right?
To be honest all my previous LR's have been fine with very few problems across a dozen or so different vehicles. Hence my allegance to the green oval (even though I've cheated and put a black & silver one on )

Dave,
The key fob may be low on charge; tape both together to charge at the same time when driving. As to the park brake, see Bodsy's brake bible for tips on EPB- a known point of failure. A clean & adjust under warranty ought to do the trick.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Just thought I'd update you on the status of the glitches.
Park brake fault reset and brakes adjusted - obviously this is pretty common.
Rear n/s door lock and cable replaced as the door wouldn't unlock. Still having problems with an intermittent lock/unlock fault so new key supplied by dealer and bingo - all ok.
I've even got some functions back that I didn't notice were missing such as the auto dip side mirrors when selecting reverse
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Congrats on the purchase! When you said what I needed you also forgot to say that it needed to be driven offroad. Future LR3 owner, from the swamps of Louisiana

Don't worry that's a given I've some er....previous for driving off road, and when she's ready this one will be no exception. First thing I sorted was change the tyres to Cooper AT's ready for winter and off road work.
She's a working Land Rover on a farm, and in two short weeks has searched out a lost lamb and carried back in the boot took some cleaning up Towed a trailer to pick a load of manure and been filled with rubbish (all seats down) and shown the way to the local 'garbage' tip.
Because she's already got the miles under her, I won't mind a long trip so I'm thinking next year of either a trans alp trip, following the hannibal route, or maybe a North Africa run
