Do any motor manufacturers offer 'incident cameras' as a factory/dealer fit option....? there must be a good reason why LR and most don't .... they are not expensive .... or perhaps they would be as a an option.....? I'm confused....
Meanwhile ... tried my wifes Garmin .... with doors closed..... lost signal...... but found it again a few minutes later ...... didn't take it out on a run though......?2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

My D2 has a heated front screen & advice when I bought a Dashcam was to get one with an external GPS antenna which I did. Antenna sits in the headlining next to the sunroof so it can 'see' satellites clearly & all works fine. Apparently it is the thin wires in the heated screen which act as a shield so assume the same applies to any car with a screen with heating wires in it. That said, whilst the dashcam won't work without the external antenna the sat nav works fine!D4 - Stornoway Grey

I've had two dashcams both with GPS built into the unit and not had any problems for the last 5 years over several Discos....the windscreen wires thing is a bit of a myth tbh 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

This does seem strange I've had road angels up near the rear view mirror on multiple discos and never had any GPS issues once they've done the first GPS lock which can take a while. Has anyone tried just sitting the device in the boot rather than front and see if it works just to rule out windscreen interference?
With regard to external GPS antenna, I wonder if its possible to tap into the OEM GPS antenna from the front somewhere a bit like you can split a TV areal signal that would make a slick solution?MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten

Can only base my comments on my personal experience - I only have one camera and alternate it between whichever vehicle I am driving, either the D2 or the 90; in the 90 it works fine on its own but in the D2 it will not work unless the external antenna is plugged in. Mounting point on both screens is near side of the rear view mirror so that it does not obscure my view.D4 - Stornoway Grey

A few more details would be good?.... how is it 'plugged' in as it were 'wireless' or cigar lighter jobby?, where is it sited, interior or external ariel..... etc etc...
..... to be honest, I'm thinking, I can't be bothered with all the agro of having a dash cam..... the fact that no dealer offers such still speaks volumes to me.... despite what others say....... its not reliable enough, it doesn't comply with various regulations, it may drain the battery, it may invalidate warranty, its crap, the cost doesn't jusify the reward... and so it goes on..... I figure, until Land Rover or whatever manufacturer offer an approved device, I will steer well clear.... NO manufacturer offers an 'incident camera' as far as I can see ... and clearly there must be a damn good reason for that!! 2016MY Discovery HSE - Black

I don't think its technical challenges stopping them being a Manufacturer option. I think there are a lot of legal and privacy hurdles the manufacturers legal teams are advising them to stay clear of (for now). For a vehicle to record a drivers every move and in some cases cabin conversation there would have to be many T@Cs and all different for each market no doubt.
If they were doing it properly they would have to implement a system that could stand up in court no doubt (continuity of evidence, data forensic resilience etc), the systems can also potentially self incriminate the driver as police can take all the data and see your driving for many days prior to any incident. They are also effectively a CCTV pointing at the public (see youtube) which also raises issues i think.
That said i like them and may well get one if it works inside the cabin!

It is wired into a "switched ignition" wire that someone on the Forum found in the driver's mirror lights cluster. It is sited just to the left of the driver's mirror and can just be seen when driving but soon forgotten. A red light flashes when it is recording although that would be easy to blank. It is wireless enable-able (a setting on the device that resets on the next ignition cycle) and has a useful iphone app. In practice it is easier to remove the micro sd card and watch the video on a pc. There is no external gps antennae, available or needed. Sat lock takes a minute or two.
I am very happy with it and have just ordered a second for swmbo's car. My only "complaint" is that the in-built screen is on for the first minute (maybe legal stuff) and I would prefer a silent setting. At £130 from Am***** it is good value.Volvo XC60 - does all that the D4 should have done

Nope, nothing stopping you reformatting the card. Takes 10 seconds in the camera just holding one button. That's in the BV anyway
Reformatting a card like this *won't* destroy the contents - can be recovered in seconds by the police if they want to use it for evidence.

It's not, some GPS devices will work, some won't. I had a mate come over who is in the vehicle tracking business and we took measurements inside the disco, inside the wife's mini and outside and basically the reduction in GPS signal strength inside the disco is significant and measurable (at least it is in mine).
My advice, if possible test the unit you are going to buy first, buy one from a seller who has a returns policy or better still buy one that other forum members have used successfully in your model year vehicle.

It is in my experience having had Fords and LR's with heated windscreens for the last 20 years.
Everything has worked fine, TomToms , Garmins, all of my phones, my android pads , my wife iPad ..the in car cams.
I guess if you are using cheap or faulty equipment then there might be a problem 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

The relevant words here surely are "in my experience" the equipment was neither cheap nor faulty and other members have reported the same issues so it's the collective experience that counts, that's otherwise called evidence! Oh and we measured the signal loss on a £15k piece of test equipment just to be sure. Snooper worked outside, in the mini, but not in the disco doesn't get much more black and white than that...
