Independant LR / Disco Specialist in the Glasgow Area? |
|
Have searced, but nothing has come up
Any good indies in the Glasgow vicinity? I don't really have time to work on the car myself at the moment, but don't want to pay main dealer labour rates....

Strathearn sounds like a good option.... any others worth considering (that are actually near Glasgow )

Not had any problems with Taggarts, Maryhill road but its still a main dealer.
Did a search myself but Disco Mikey was the only other one I could find.

Thanks v40mav ~ they're a bit closer than Strathearn so may be worth a look.
Trackman - I'm sure Taggarts are good (used their Hamilton branch on wifeys RX8 previously and was always impressed) - I just baulk at three figure hourly rates
I ran an old (but spotless) 944S2 for a while and even though we were in spitting distance of the Glasgow OPC I would take the car to Peter McAnna at Motortune in Shotts for anything serious. Not exactly handy, but he knew them inside out (and was factory trained when those cars were current) - I'm at least 110% certain I would have had no better service from the dealership, and payed approx £70 per hour less.
Prior to visiting Motortune I'd never been to a garage where the owner argued that he wouldn't do what you've asked as you won't see any benefit and will be wasting your money.

Hi Mik, when I lived in the west end of Glasgow I used to use an independent guy who worked solo in a unit in a small trading estate just off Shawbridge St near the Pollokshaws Rd and Nether Auldhouse Rd junction.Always happy with his work and prices on my then D2 td5 ES albeit it was 7 yrs ago now! The bad news is Alzheimers is kicking in and i'm if I can remember his name or number and I gave away all his receipts with the D2 when I sold it. I now use Gemm 4x4 and am equally as happy. I've never used Strathearn but have only heard good things about them. nick

Hi Mik, had a look on Google and dropped onto the "street view" camera icon for 230 Shawbridge St. If you rotate it eastwards it will show a small pole mounted street sign covered in moss below the trees for Shawbridge Industrial Estate. If you follow the direction of the arrow it shows you the entrance gates with another sign for George Jarvis motors - which is not the guy I used BUT directly behind his sign are a BMW and an Escort sitting outside a unit - which has the shutters down. Thats my guys place - now he did work hours to suit himself so that may be why the shutters are down OR he may have moved on or just closed up? The neighbours might know I suppose but I guess thats as far as I can take you. Regards from Inspector Clouseau

Would recommend Gem 4x4 , a good bunch of guys, and of course Lix Toll if your willing to travel out a bit. There are 10 types of people in this world ~ those that understand binary and those that don't.

Hi Mik, out of the blue found old list of car related numbers I had misplaced. The independent I used in Glasgow was MME 4X4, Unit 1, Shawbridge Industrial Estate, 239, Shawbridge Street, glasgow. The office number was 0141-636-0444. His name was Robert Masterton. His Help number (presumably a mobile ) was 07976-266785.
Thats me fresh out of useful info other than to say I went and had a look at Strathearn's setup, had a chat with them and was quite impressed, to the point my D3 will be going in in next week or so for 48month service. Yes, I know I could do it all myself but I like the comfort of that little stamp in the logbook.
