Installing a HD locking rear diff - Someone did it...

Hi folks,

Some weeks back, I came across a thread where someone actually tackled the replacement of their standard rear diff with the locking (HD package) version Bow down

Idiot that I am I didn't save that thread and for the life of me, now I can't find it.

By any chance, does anyone recall seeing that thread?

Thanks.

Karl.

I've done that, not sure if anyone else has. I never posted about it on here, though.

Yeah, it's on another forum here!

The 'Someone in Norway' was 'Fogga' - I had loads of PMs from him last August, whilst I was down in the Falkland Islands.

I think the Topic you were originally looking for was this one.

If someone needs the info about the connectors, this is how I did make the cable loom instead of looking at the scrappers.

SweNic - very interesting!

It seems 'easy' enough to find an e-diff to install, but because of the rarity of original factory ediff fitemtn, finding donor cars to salvage the loom from would be difficult - I suspect.

My diff (non-locker) is making some noises, if I'm going to replace it anyway it might as well be an e-diff. With Spooky's provision of the wiring diagrams and you've found the connectors, all I would need to do is 'join-the-connectors'!

Cheers.

I have read and reread Spookys guide and I now have all the bits apart from the diff oil to do this change on my D4 with 8 speed auto. There are some subtle differences due to the wiring harness and the ratio of the diff.

I'll provide details when it's done.
