Interested what is going on in your engine? - this may help

Found this today

http://carman.garage.maemo.org/

If there is a CAN-bus socket somewhere on D3 (cannot check until Friday Mr. Green ) then this could give loads of information - as described there. Possibly some enthusiasts or even tuning people could use this.....

Enjoy! Very Happy
HJ.

CAN bus is available via the OBD2 socket (bottom of dash trim in line with the brake pedal) the Prius owners site has been at this for a while but there is a question over the accuracy of the reported figures

Just been over there and read the thread - seems like the sourcecode (which I can certainly work with) is going to find its way out into the open and combined with one of these http://www.can232.com/ - anyone with a carputer or similar will be laughing.

Also found these on ebay

i'm not too hot with source code but there's a few apps for OBD2 that are 'handy' Wink

I have tried these :

- http://www.auterraweb.com/

Not tried this one :

But I must say that I am not really convinced... It seems that the CAN Bus and the OBD2 system are quite separate and even if you can usually interrogate the OBD2 system the other one is closed to us ! Crying or Very sad But, if someone has a system that works, I am interested...

Wiggs, I have heard that some laptops do not provide quite enough juice (either Volts or Amps) at the USB port to power some of these devices correctly. If it's an option, can you try it on another laptop, or drag a desktop machine out just to trial it?

If that does turn out to be the issue, you can buy a cheap mini USB hub and a 12v to 5v cigarette lighter power converter to power it and buffer the power/data between your laptop and the device when you're on the move.

USB devices need 5V and up to a maximum of half an amp to work - some laptops fall short of either or both of these levels; resulting in things like external USB powerd hard-drives failing to spin up.

Also, I know that in spite of the supposed backwards compatibility for USB standards, I know of at least one device I've used that refused to work on a USB2 port, but would work if you changed it to be USB1.1 in the PC BIOS. That too might be worth a shot if it's an option available to you.

Let us know!

most devices will initially draw USB power, then change over to OBDII power, this can be checked by unplugging the USB lead once the OBDII connection has initialised
