Interesting conversation at Main Dealer part 2 |
|
Phoned Guy Salmon Bristol yesterday following the flare up at Matford Exeter
and asked the same questions about what would happen if I purchased a car from them and the crank snapped the salesman was very nice about it and asked could I prove this ? to which I gave him the TSB number he looked it up and said yes although he had not come across this issue it did flag up a question mark ,he said he would make enquires today and get back to me .True to his word the salesman rang me and said he could confirm that a) the crank was not covered b)the service manager had confirmed that the Approved Land Rover Warranty would not cover this known issue and he has had 2 claims rejected c)that the only course of action was to appeal to Land Rover CRC and if your car has been serviced by a Main Dealer only you may possibly get a goodwill gesture of a contribution to the repair .
The salesman was shocked that this was the case and could totally understand my concerns about a purchase
bravo to him life is full of surprises Land Rover 90 - deceased

Chris I wonder if others might like to know who the salesman is? He went the extra mile to surprise you with an answer after he looked into it. Nice to reward good work

If the warranty is classed as insurance, I don't believe you can insure the same risk twice.

Who knows, if the sales teams at various dealers continue to be made aware of this issue, they might even become reluctant to offer trade in valuations to anyone with a TDV6/SDV6 powered Discovery 4/5 or Range Rover. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4

Interesting think I might give warrenty direct & Land Rover a call to see if I have any options. 2015MY discovery 4 se tech with factory black pack.

I expect Warranty Direct already know about the crank problem and perhaps they will start to exclude the crank failure from their policies. This will really scupper a lot of folks. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.

I've recently bought a three-year old D4 from a Main Dealer and in answer to my specific question the salesman was quite clear that engine failure was covered by the Land Rover Approved Warranty up to the purchase price of the vehicle.
I've looked at the warranty booklet and it, too, is clear that it covers "mechanical or electrical failure defects to all factory fitted components of the vehicle ...": and it defines mechanical or electrical failure as "the sudden and unexpected failure of a component which is covered by the warranty and which requires immediate repair or replacement."
So do we know what Land Rover think their get-out is? Land Rover 80" station wagon (1949)

There is a clause to say that they won’t cover design faults. Though how it is defined, I’m not sure. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8

If they sell a vehicle with a known fault, doesn't this fall under the fit for purpose part of the Sale of Goods Act??
What about the Unfair Contract Clauses Act regarding the warranty?
It is about time JLR was brought to task over this.........!! It needs someone like Watchdog to take this up and make a huge public issue of the engine failures and customers left with a pile of expensive scrap. If dealers couldn't then sell secondhand stock due to the public backlash, then JLR might do the right thing.
JLR needs to make engine parts available at the very least!! ------------------------------
