Intermittent Clutch slip...low rumble when engaged...

Some will remember my clutch suddenly slipped the other month when accelerating up a motorway slip road fully laden..

anyway it's not slipped since (to my knowledge anyway) I've been driving slightly more clutch friendly as well... just so I don't get the christmas lights on the dash again!

Anway, yesterday we popped over to Westonbirt to exercise the kids... and while queing to get in (windown down) I could hear the very slightest of rumbles when ever the clutch was depressed... then it vanished when I lifted off...

Is this the clutch thrust bearing on the way out? And would this explain the slipping clutch? or just another thing to replace when it finally stops moving!

Sounds like it is the thrust bearing to me.

As to whether other things need doing, I've always been of the view that, once it's apart, replace all wearing items (ie, clutch, thrust bearing and, in the D3s case, the dual-mass flywheel).

This is a pleasure that still awaits me. Big Cry

Best Wishes,

Hi AWD man

If it is a low metallic rumble and it also audible when you turn off the engine it could also be the dual-mass flywheel Exclamation I had my dealer have a ear on it and he said that this it seems to be and he would change the complete clutch, bearing and the flywheel which will be approx. € 2000 total with labour Shocked

Since that seems a little to much for a clutch replacement with just 85000 km on the meter I would like if somebody knows a cheaper/better way to go?

Thank you in advance

Cheers
