iPhone 4S / Siri

A couple of days ago I kept getting text messages driving into work so out of frustration pressed the home button on my 4S. To my surprise, Siri came over the bluetooth connection loud and clear and promptly accepted my request to read new text messages. I was mildly impressed Thumbs Up

Siri works really well I find. For making calls, sending text messages on the move. Its a great feature.

Can't remember if I need to press the end call button or not.

Apparently it works well through the Parrot systems, could it be the size of the D3 causing problems.

This article is interesting about the future though http://www.techau.tv/blog/microsoft-tellme...iri-video/

Siri has such great potential ..they really have to sort out the location issue outside of the US though ...it's only half good until then tbh Smile

Appreciated ...but even so it can't be that hard to find out where you are outside of the US surely.

Anyway ...it does have great potential for controlling things around the home etc ...some hacks have already started experimenting with things like heating controls....

How long do you think Apple will allow someone to hack their system through a proxy Laughing

Siri knows where you are hence it can give you a local weather forecast, what it can't do in the UK is tell you where businesses are which is a shame.

Stu you been using your voice app again? it seems it doesn't work very well Laughing

Even without a 4S you can get some of the voice recognition functionality... On my iPhone 4 I have an app called Vlingo, which allows you to send spoken texts and emails (but it doesn't read received ones sadly), plus search for locations etc. It works quite well on the move in my D3, interfaced via Bluetooth to my old Nokia phone kit.

One downside though is that it requires an on-screen button press to start it 'listening', which is a shame as the iPhone itself will start listening out for phone contacts to call at the touch of the button on the Nokia doohickie.

The voice recognition apps work by recognising set words and only those commands work. Siri doesn't work like that hence you can ask questions like will I need an umbrella today. It might not sound much of a difference but the way you can use it is massively different.

I think Google are working on something similar and MS see this as the future too so I guess we will see some big changes in the next few years Thumbs Up
