iPod cable and MY10 charging

Hi,

I have bought a curly ipod connector cable off fleabay, and lo and behold it doesnt charge the iPod nano 4th gen I "recovered" off one of the kids. So the question is, do I need to buy one of these ctipod connectors to get it to charge or am I on the wrong track?

Thanks,

Alastair

Or get the replacement socket unit from TLO. A two minute job to change it.

Thanks everyone, TLO contacted and it will be in the post for approx. £45 posted, I was very pleased with myself until I suddenly realised that it would have been cheaper to buy a second hand 3rd gen ipod off ebay than try and make use one of the kids discarded gadgets. Ho hum, just a learning for someone else maybe.

Cheers

OK,

Getting seriously fed up with this, new connector arrives this morning (thanks Nick), 30 seconds to switch it over and.......same as before, ipod nano 4th gen reports "Charging is unsupported from this device".

So has anyone got any ideas? Please, please pretty please!

I have the new connector block LR021802

and the cable I have has the following numbers on:

AH22-19H461-AA
LFS02400-001D
5505686/100212
SSCI-UK

Cheers

Have you got another Apple device to try?

Assuming port is now OK and Ipod is OK then it must be the cable you bought from ebay?

Do you ever venture into South Yorks as you could try my cable in your port and vice versa?

Thanks for offer, I do venture over to South Yorkshire and may take you up, will wait till my son comes back tonight as he has an iPod touch that I will try next and report back.

Interestingly or confusingly, not sure which, although I get the message about charging not supported on this device, the little lightning bolt comes on in the battery icon on the top right hand corner, so maybe it is charging, or I am just getting desperate?

Alastaid,,
This is a common problem with Granny Smith products if you are using a third party lead. There is some strange configuration in the original plug which informs the device that it can and is charge. it is not just live and return two lead wiring. Some third party leads are not wired correctly. BUT you can still initially see the lightening bolt and get the connecting Beep, but then it changes to "not charging" and "unsupported" message, sometimes some minutes later. It doesn't happen with all third party leads though and you only find out once you've bought it.

I'm afraid I think you have been fleabitten Laughing Try a genuine lead from a LR dealer or if not try and borrow one just to test it. Also as suggested, first try another device with your lead.
If it don't fit the third time - try a bigger hammer

Thanks again for help, I wasn't very clear, it is a genuine Land Rover Cable I have bought off ebay, and it looks perfect, no nicks or kinks, are there different versions of the LR cable over time as well?

Cheers

Right. Might be that it was a duff cable anyway. Hard just to tell from outside.
I think you do need to try another Apple product especially an iPhone if you can, even just plug someone else's in to check it.

ISTR that the Nano in particular can be a problem with lots of connectors.

Does it allow any other functions like feed the music correctly or is it totally dead?

The other thing you could do is ask Nick if your cable part number is correct.

And I presume you know you have a power feed even though you have replaced the socket?

Yes, everything works perfectly, it plays music, reads all the playlists etc, just doesn't charge, will try the iPod touch and find someone with an iPhone tomorrow hopefully.

Next update........

Well the iPod Touch 4 charges!

and I had been using the ipod nano not connected to anything to run the battery down, been buzzing around town for an hour with it connected back up (even though it said it wasn't charging), took it off again, and hey presto the battery is fully charged, so it is working, just don't believe a nano when it say sit isn't charging.

Thanks all

Cheers
