IPod classic won't play

Apologies if this has been covered before, but just tried the aforementioned IPod and the car doesn't/won't detect the device (using the locators in the cubby box lid) ....IPod software is up-to-date but it is 7-8 years old......do I need a more modern IPod with newer software to play through the car ?

I have no problems with using my old iPod classic in the car (MY2012). It just works.

I presume your iPod works properly when connected to your computer with the same cable (have you checked that it has the current firmware on it?) and it is charged up and connected to the USB port marked "iPod" (it doesn't work in the other port).

That probably didn't help much - sorry.

I have tried a couple of different cables now and it's still not happy.......I'm going to borrow a newer IPod and try that. Cheers

Right...got to the bottom of it,I think...my Ipod Classic (2005) is apparently 1st gen USB....the D4, I am told, runs at least 2nd (or poss 3rd gen) USB.....so no matter what I do my Classic will not play.
I have got round it by converting the music files in ITunes from mp4 to mp3,then downloading the whole lot to a 2nd gen USB memory stick.....
Just been out and the music from the USB stick sounds great...now I just need to buy one of the 64gb ones that somebody posted on here yesterday and I'm up and running without the need to buy another Ipod Thumbs Up

I know I am a bit off topic now but can you give me a few tips on itunes file types. When you converted to mp3, did you then delete all the mp4? If not, how do you only sync one file type as ticking each song is too much? And what bps did you convert to in mp3.

My file types are AAC and I ahve a player that can read off my server, trouble is it does not see all the files. I tried converting to mp3 but got 160kps and two of everything. That would mess up my ipod! Have deleted the mp3. and am trying tothink through how to organise it better. Any tips appreciated.

I kept both mp3 and mp4 for future use....mainly because mp3 doesn't use much space, and also because as you said its a PITA to highlight and paste each individual mp3 track only....I probably wouldn't recommend this if you were to then update your Ipod as it would indeed Censored it up.....I only did it in this way because I was transferring to a USB stick....I still need to organise the files properly in the stick, but wanted to hear what it sounded like...and its pretty good...the quality of the films on the USB looked pretty good on the nav screen too 8)
