iPod discharge
2016 D4
I plug an iPod/iPhone into the glovebox USB (not the incontrol one) and it plays, but then discharges overnight so it is so dead in the morning it won't charge (I hear that the ampage on the car USB is too low to charge a completely dead iPod/iPhone). Should it discharge like this? It works fine when recharged from the mains and charges in the car when part-charged, but then discharges overnight again when used in the car. I assume I don't have to faff about turning the iPod off seperately from the car every time I use it.Daniel

No way, sounds like the same set up as mine, have had mine plugged in for 2 years, never been discharged in the slightest, longest I have ever left the car was 4 days, all was fine the next time I used it.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

I noticed that the ipod stays on when the car is off, so I have always turned it off independently.Gary

Never noticed, but saying that ours is in the garage unlocked, but when you open a door everything fires back up, which would be the same as unlocking, I would have to leave the window open and reach inside to the glovebox to find out if its still on, but I think everything shuts down after a while, maybe the iPod goes into a sleep mode when the car is powered down, but to discharge that quick is not right, the only time I have found an iPod discharged was in my Boxster, but that might sit for a few weeks at a time.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

As I feared....
A thought comes to me - it might be that the music needs to be stopped on the screen seperately from the ignition being turned off - D'ohDaniel

Is yours not controlled through the screen, when you turn the car of the music should pause anyway, if you turn the car off and come back to it an hour later does it play the same song or has it missed a load of songs, way to check is to go to an album that you know well, In the screen and select the first song, let it play for a few verses and switch off, lock the car up and come back 30mins later and start her up and see what song is playing, it should start where you left off, if its near the end of the album thats not right.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

I have the same setup and no problem.
I have found with other iphones and Ipads that having a non Apple cable can greatly affect charging, some wouldn't fully charge and at best take longer, maybe try a genuine cable if it isn't.Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Have the same issue in my 2016 when iPod plugged in in glovebox. Never had an issue in the previous 2010 using the curly lead and socket in the centre cubby.
Basically when the car shuts down, although the iPod is paused, it doesn't power off or go into any sort of sleep mode. The small amount of time I'm in the car with it running isn't enough charge to counter the large amount of time where I'm not, so after a few days the iPod goes flat. You can tell when this has happened because it takes an age for the iPod to power back up from flat and it always starts to play the first stored track alphabetically rather than where you left off.
Very frustrating really. It's an iPod nano gen 7 with the latest software if that counts for anything.

Is it perhaps an ipod setup problem, do you have it set to auto lock, so it should stop playing and then lock after a few minutes?Joined the BMWX5 45e group

Okay checked today, locked car up but left the window down, had a look after 1/2 hour, leant in and opened the glovebox, iPod had black screen, pressed the home button and it lights up on to the lock screen.
I can't really see the car being able to actually turn the iPod completely off, but this is how i suspect it should be, maybe as someone said settings but I did nothing to mine, new from the box just plugged in, apart from loading music onto it.2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)

I seem to have fixed my iPod discharge issue. On closer inspection it was plugged in with a non genuine Apple lead that must have come from somewhere round the house. Swapped to a genuine Apple lead and problem fixed.

Unless you have a really bad lead it should not be the case, Im not using a genuine lead, was so fed up having loads of cable in the glovebox I use this now, no problems whatsoever.

Well I can't really comment on how good or bad the lead is, I can only report what I have observed. I too purchased an extra short lead from eBay for the same reasons. It does appear to charge the iPod perfectly both in and out of the car however the issues with the iPod going completely flat overnight when left in the car connected have gone now I've switched back to a genuine lead.

How odd, seems as though it hit or miss with regard to this, still the main thing is that it works for you, or the other solution is to drive the car more. 2015 D4 HSE LUX Kaikoura Stone(sold)
