Is my battery duff ???

Not had any problems at all with battery.
But today, sat in a service station for half hour, engine off and only the radio on.
Came to start and had no power in battery to restart [assisatance called and jump started].

I'm told that there is probably a cell gone down and in normal use this isn't a problem.
But when you do as I did, it shows up then.

Been told to have a drop charge test to check out.
I reckon it's 99% that I need a new battery.

Any thoughts?

you could always swap the battery with one from a vehicle that is still in warranty Whistle Thumbs Up

unless they are coded and traceable somehow in which case it's probably best avoided.

Good idea, but reckon there would be a date stamp somewhere.

LR might find it odd that an 05 battery turns up in say an 07 model?

I have a similar problem - left all the lights on at L2B for about 10 minutes, dead as a dodo for starting.

What is the best recommended replacement? Should I just go for an LR one or get and Optima or something?

I'll be checking around this morning.
Chances are I'll just be going for a standard one [as I don't know anything about the Optima]
Going to check out with LR, Halfords & local motor factors.
Seemingly the longer the guarantee - the better/more expensive the battery.

Just checked Halfords online.
Great easy to use web search.
Just key in your reg, then up pops the recommended battery.
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...esCmd#dtab
And you can reserve on line, then visit, have yours checked to ensure it is the battery that's duff, then they'll fit for £5.
It's got a 3 yr guarantee and so far it seems good for £105 all in.
[less £2 voucher]
Thumbs Up

Edit: LR is £114 - so just going with that to keep my D3 as original as poss.

btw. Optima Yellow Top is an additional battery for powering accessories.

probably aint good enough and if it is a cell it wont crank in any use. put a meter across the terminals and take a reading then turn on the lights and if it drops by a few volts then you can be certain its shagged.

Thinking of a red top as a main, before possibly fitting a yellow top and split charge system later on.

Just been to Ripon Land Rover.
They put a meter on the battery, did some tests and it came up as in very good condition.
So didn't buy a new battery.
In future when I park up, I'll make sure radio and other electrics are off, or I'll sit with engine running.
No doubt if there is a problem it'll show up in the coming cold morning starts.

Great service from Ripon Land Rover - an auto electrician and a mechanic taking time over my D3 [at no cost] and saving me from spending unnecessarily.
Thumbs Up
