thinks it's a switch that's part of the catch, rather than the loop that's on the bonnet.

or better still, slam the bonnet down which is what most of us do - personally I'd not disconnect the sensor as I've seen d3's flying down the motorway with the bonnet seated only on the second clapse. Shocked

Yeah defo on the left (facing) side, my right side catch has come loose/not attached correctly 3 times now.... and only noticed at full tilt down the motorway.

I always check and double check my bonnet now, even when its been into the dealers (last 2 times was dealer who open last).

Darren.
(sorry slightly off topic)

many thanks for this info this saved me the annoyance of the horn constantly going off every time I locked it.

The microswitch just needed cleaning and WD40ing

Does anyone have any pictures of where the actual sensor is? I follow the cable as it runs into a little black box, I opened the black box just to find another cable there, no actual sensor?

The Sensor is actualy just a thin metal sheet curled( spring like). When the boned its closed it pushes it down a few mm and so it closes the electric circuit. In time due to wear and no lubrification that metal sheet will loose its proper lenght and the circuit will not be closed -> bonnet open error even if the mecanical part is closed. Either try to adjust the spring or buy another sensor. It shouldnt be expensive, i've changed my like 1 year ago.
ps: the "sensor" its located on the left side right under the side lock part.

My bonnet catches had a little bit of rust on them. A quick clean off of the right bit (the bit that swings around and makes the contact) with some wet & dry plus a bit of copper slip and all working again. No more embarrassing horn Embarassed when locking 8)
