Is it a cock and bull story...?

My D3 has been into the dealers to sort out a few niggles, including a strange sound when I turn right (no wise cracks BN) a sort of 'whooshing' sound almost like tyre is rubbing against something. the dealers explanation is that it is normal and happens when turning apparently its the sound of the tyre on the tarmac Question If thats the case then all of your vehicles should do the same, you'll need to turn off radio/CD and automatic climate control to hear it properly, is it a dealers cock and bulls story Evil or Very Mad

If your vehicle was in "access hight" setting then the noise is almost certainly the tyres fouling part of the vehicle when on full lock. I notice this everyday when parking my D3 in an underground car park with restricted height clearance. I have learnt to avoid full lock as the noise is really quite alarming. At less than full lock there is no loud noise but I would expect some tyre noise in enclosed spaces on some surfaces when turning. I wouldn't expect any noise at normal height, outside on any surface ......

No this is under normal driving conditions, not in access mode.

Dom,

I hear this too. I think its the tyres on the road when you turn.

Straight ahead... no noise... when you turn... noise

Just the weight scrubbing our tyres bare I feel.

I have another theory it could be those weights (I call them the D3's balls) hanging down at the back chaffing as we veer right or left. Laughing

You would think they would have checked that, who knows nothing was mentioned about tracking

The noise I hear is definitely the tyres on the road when your turning.

Yes, I have heard this too on both access mode and normal when on full lock. Think mine is mainly on right hand lock, which turns tighter than left, but not always. It appears to be some sort of noise from the power steering. It may be a release valve on full lock, but not yet decided. It does sound a little like metal, but no eveidence of that. I plan to take the front wheels off next time I can get it on the ramp.

I get this whooshing noise, it is most noticable with the window down. I think it may be the power steering hydraulics, but it could also be the tyre I suppose.

Maybe we are talking two separate noises here. Only one I can hear is rubber scrubbing on the tarmac.

Off for its service this morning so will listen out for any other noises.

If my extensive past experience of Land Rovers is anything to go by, (3 Disco's and a 2a), it is folly to start actually 'listening' for obscure noises in these vehicles.

All my past vehicles have made various noises, and most of them were proved 'normal'

If all you can get out of a D3 is a little tyre hiss, then I personally would not worry. Lets not forget it weighs nearly 3 tons!

If I were a tyre trying to make 3 tons go around a corner, I think I would hiss too. Razz

I get the tyres making a noise when cornering as the rubber is scraped off Shocked makes me want to take corners much slower as the thought of paying out for new tyres makes me shudder Crying or Very sad
Most cars I have had you get a noise then the power steering is on fall lock something to do with the hydraulics Exclamation

Is that better Question
