Is it me ?? - Just got a whole lot worse |
|
Not sure if it's me but the steering on my recently acquired D3 HSE suddenly seems a bit 'vague' ??
It was particularly noticeable last night on a return trip from Southampton , having covered about 130 miles, I got the distinct impression that the car was not travelling in a straight line and when cornering, especially roundabouts, it felt like the car wanted to move in a direction not entirely in line with where I was (hopefully) pointing it. It felt like a severe oversteer kicking in.
A very unnerving experience. The front tyres are close to requiring replacement, I was wondering if anyone had any pearls of wisdom to offer ??
Thanks in anticipation.
Steve

If your tyres are shot and if you were in the rain drenched UK yesterday for sure you are going to struggle .....
LR recommend a minimum of 3mm tread if I recall . I remember running down almost to the wear bars on all 4 of mine and the drive was shall we say engaging at times to say the least and that was in the dry!!!!!
Get yr rubber sorted first and go from there ............

When the council salt the roads, the salt attracts the moisture and the road surface become a bit greasy, which can feel as though the steering isn't as accurate as it was especially if you are on worn tyres, either that, or take more water with it !.

That sounds about right
The fronts are nearly down to the wear bars so that will be my next steps. I think I read somewhere that you have to recalibrate the cars system when the tyres are changed ??

If the tyres dont make much difference, maybe its your bushes on lower and upper as i have found out on mine. Feels awful in the strong wind im having down here, its as if it were on tram lines or ruts in the road.

Plenty of advice on here about tyre choice. It depends what you want to do with the vehicle. Also, there are two sponsors on here. I've only used one of them but plenty of peeps have used both. Their usernames are Ken and AJS4X4.
At the risk of starting another tyre debate - I like the Pirelli Scorpion ATR. It does what I want it to do. I've got General AT2 on another vehicle and they're pretty good too. The AT2 is in the process of being replaced by the AT. This brand new tyre has several threads of it's own Club missing my D3

Unnecessary quote removed
Travelling to Norfolk Friday night, still feeling distinctly vague and then 'bing/bong' - suspension failure light pops up. Remained Amber until I pulled into laybay, switched off and on a restart, car had reset itself, lasted about another 45 minutes before it came on again, same switch off/switch on routine sorted it and that's how it has been all weekend.
Now back home and dropping the car into my local Indy tomorrow, presuambly there will be error codes stored ??
Just hope it's not a big issue, although car is under warranty (AutoProtect via the dealer), I'm not looking forward to any extended negotiations should it prove to be an expensive job.
