When is Modification is no longer viable
Just wanted some thoughts on depreciation and modification....
I purchased my D3 for £19000k 55 plate HSE 49k millage
To date have completed the following:
D4 External conversion approximate cost: £2k
Wheels 20" stormers £500
compressor £450
Sundries £500
£60k Service £500 lR
So a £4k Expenditure on a £19k car totaling £23k
As the car has done £60k but has been significantly modified what would i expect it to fetch when i sell it?
btw this car has made me enjoy driving again, and i have been spoilt in the cars ive had so to me it feels that this is worth it i do feel that i should get some of the mod money back so probably better selling on the forum to people who know my car and have seen it being built...
What do you think ?Spent tooo much club: Air compresser, parking ecu,D4 front D4 rear, tow bar, D4 arches, stormers 20" with General grabbers, new engine, new turbo, new front lower arms, new rear upper arms, new track rod ends, new anti roll bar bushes, Bas remap 2nd stage, K&N filter, clear indicators, door handle covers, nav update, wheel protector, new winch for spare wheel, 20" stormer spare, new plastic tube on top of engine, new fuel flap assembly, new mats, sill protectors,

I spent £7k on mods on a new Defender, when it was all done and the excitement of finding what mods could be done and sourcing the parts was over, I found my wife was pregnant and we needed better seats for the baby so sold it and bought the D3. I didn't get much more than the standard price but what it did do was make it saleable, it sold to the frst person that looked at it on the first day advertised, maybe I did sell it a bit cheap but at least it made someone happy

You'd have lost £4k just driving off the forecourt in your new D4. If it does what you want it to and enjoy it then keep it.
However, I'm sure you'll be able to sell the face lift kit on if you do sell it.

TBH,
I don't thinks mods add value just personal satisfaction
Im a sucker for mods but I don't expect to see my money back if I sell the car on,I was hoping to of sold mine on for a newer model by now but can't currently afford the extra £5-8k so small mods on current car keep happening

I think it's a bit like spending loads on decorating a house before selling it, makes no difference to the value but it might make it more attractive - to the right buyer.
