Pelyma, I agree that a £16.99 air jack is very likely to be rubbish, we'll see soon enough hopefully, but as a back up to the L/R supplied jack I think it would make sense if it was of passable quality, just for extra safety. I'd never use it on It's own on a D3.
Like you, I can't really justify the full monty air jack as my off roading is similar to yours in that I mainly use fields & farm tracks. I'm not going to carry a trolley or bottle jack around in my D3, but a small air jack should weigh very little & be easy to safely stow away somewhere.
If I was to jack the D3 up at home I'd use my trolley jack, axle stands etc.

If DD has evaluated the risk(s) and is prepared to try / buy these either as an alternative or supplement to the LR jack, then what's the problem? Yep, they're cheap and I wouldn't use them anywhere near a hot exhaust or on stony ground but as a low cost backup, I personally think theyre fine. the seller is advertising them for use on 4x4's and capable of 3 tonnes of lift, one corner of a D3 is nothing like that much (and no, i'm not one to get sucked in to advertising hype). If one was to be punctured under load, it's unlikely to result in explosive decompression, more likely to be much the same effect as releasing the valve on the airbag to deflate it normally - a fast, but controlled lowering of the vehicle. Airbags work on volume, not ultimate pressure so, assuming two airbags are deployed, failure of one will not result in the D3 hitting the ground like bits of the space shuttle.....

If DD want's to try them out, well that's his considered choice - save the 'told ya so' or Embarassed Embarassed for later

DD Let us know how you get on! If the lift is high enough and with axle stand in place JIC, this might be the simple alternative to using the standard jack for changing all wheels over. We await the verdict!

Have you looked at the video on air-jack.com?

http://www.air-jack.com/defender_video.htm

Lot of money but when all said and done less than the cost of a single wheel and tyre from the dealer!

Maybe someone in the UK can organise a group buy? Very Happy

Get humans to do it, they are cheaper than air jacks.
