Cat, whilst I totally agree with you in that you should buy the best quality especially when dealing with something as dangerous as lifting a car, anyone who sticks their head into the wheel arch when changing a wheel is a moron IMHO.
I regularly change my wheels over (between the 18's and the 17's) and have had to change one flat. I have Never had to put my head into the wheel arch to do so. (In fact, due to the large brain and ego ensconced therein, I doubt it would fit!).
But you are right, changing wheels is not to be taken lightly!Have a nice day!

who said anything about putting your head in the wheel arch. the tyre is recessed and the plastic bit sits proud and with the weight of the tyre (unless you're really strong) you'll be close to the body and if it lowers it can catch your noggin. Engrish is not my strong point.
No probs I understand, but anyway there's no need to get your head into that position with the arch either. If you are, then you're back is probably arched too much and taking too much strain.
I usually sit on the grround and lift the wheel onto the stupds, keeping my back straight and my head out of harms way.
Your point was very valid as was the one about the wheel shooting off towards you. I was just discussing in case there was anyone reading who wasn't used to changing wheels.Have a nice day!
