In front of the radfiator there is a connector with nothing attached. I believe this is for the smog sensor for Japan.

United Kingdom 2006 Discovery 3 4.0 V6 Petrol SE Auto Java BlackDiscovery 3

Thanks for that Paul - having just recovered from flu, I staggered to my car to check on the socket. Sure enough I found the socket behind the grille and connected, but to what I do not know. I uploaded pics I have taken with my mobile, unfortunately they weren't that good.

The VICS antenna / sat nav is something that was added as a mandatory factory option - for which it cost GBP2000 or thereabouts. VICS broadcasts local traffic flows and helps sat nav navigate you away from congestion. The dealer explained the extra GBP which I had to pay would save my fuel bills, but that remains to be seen.

Whilst I was in bed I took the opportunity to re-read the brochure - and found that my MY06 has a height of 1890mm. From MY07 though, the height seems to have been increased by 5cm to 1940mm. This might explain my perception that my car seems lower than the ones I have seen elsewhere. I recall the dealer explaining that from MY07 there has been a requirement to attach a mirror at the front end (LHS) to improve visibility. It is a regulatory requirement that totally destroys the aesthetic qualities of D3 (the LR-Japan site has the pics of D3 with the mirror, known as the mushroom). I am beginning to suspect that for MY05/06, LR decided to lower the suspension of the front wheels so as to avoid having to use the mushroom, but then found that it wasn't worth their time building Japan specific D3. This is a variation in theme of the suspension height issue discussed in length elsewhere in the forum, but I would love to know if I could at least "standardise" my D3.

Minimum heights from (current) LR website are:-

Fixed roof - 1837
Alpine roof - 1832
Roof rails - 1841
Integrated phone antenna - 1890

All of these are Access Height values - add 50mm for Standard and another 50mm for extended

Its the Sharks Fin thats probably pushed you value you quote up 50mm
