Johsonrods
This is my Disco with 2,5" lift kit from Johson rods and STT Discoverer.
I have also received the new 3" lift kit.
One guy told me that liflting the Disco 3 more than 1" put a severe constraint on the transmission, he read that in a French magzine.
I don't see any technical reason why and have not read any trouble with the 2,5" kit (except if you have put big tyres and the car gets in "security very low mode" !!!!)
Any comments?My fifth Disco ...

Not an expert but I think the strain on the transmission mentioned would be on the propshafts joints or half shafts joints. Basically there will be a bigger angle for the joints to cope with. Quite how severe the extra strain is I have no idea.
Not sure if the propshafts or the halfshafts are the ones affected on the independent suspension of the D3, but I do know that Defenders went through propshaft UJs much quicker when fitted with a lift kit, especially so if the vehicle did many high speed road miles. The higher the lift, the quicker they started whistling and eventually fell to pieces.

Your front CV joint will pull apart if you use full lock, and apply too much power. Be very careful !

CV joint is the flexible joint at the end of your front driveshaft. Its the bit that allows the driveshaft to turn with the steering.
Even with standard suspension, if you get into 'off road extended' mode and turn full lock, then apply power the joint can break.
The problem is that the joint cannot bend as much as is needed, especially when the wheel is fully extended in a hole or something.
I have seen it happen twice now.

Okay. I think I understand. When you say "turn full lock", do you mean with my steering wheel completely on the right or left?
The two cases you saw where they using a lift like I have?
Thanks.My fifth Disco ...

Yes full lock means turning the steering wheel all the way to the left or right.
On both occasions, the vehicles were standard, apart from off road tyres. The first time was in a quarry, and the front wheel was in a rut. The car sensed it was stuck and went into "Extended" mode by itself, which is perfectly normal. The driver applied full lock (steering all the way over to the left or right) and applied some power to get out of the rut and the joint broke, scattering his balls everywhere!
The second time was in deep sand, and I think he just got stuck and the car again went into extended mode.
The danger you have is that your car will still try and pump the suspension up further into "extended" mode. With the shortened rods, it will go proportionally higher, and increase the risk.
I'm not saying don't do it, just be more careful if you get stuck.

Thank you for the explanation. I go to a mud terrain tomorrow to test my 2,5" lift and 275/65/18 stt discoverer. I'll apply what you said if I get stuck: no full lock.My fifth Disco ...

And I would advise not ptting it in to super extended mode. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Another caution to take (and is easy to avoid) is if you have more lift....you'll want bigger tires...and once you hit like a 33" (I think) you run a risk of blowing one of the pumpkins!

No as the name says you can adjust the lengths to suit the lift you want, I set mine to - 8mm the standard length. This gives about 50mm lift. Yours are fixed length.

Wow that's very interesting!
It means you can adjust them when they are on the car or do you need to remove them to adjust?
Where did you get them?
Is 5 cm the max lift of the car or do they make 2,5" models ?My fifth Disco ...
