had to do this on the Audi S4 and it worked so i have done it with the D3 and guess what, its a fix! just take the arm and blade in both hands and twist gently so which ever way it judders you need to twist away from that direction. imagine the blade digging in to the glass on its sweep and you get the picture.

Mine does the same drivers side only, and the last 4'' of the wiper sweep, drives me nutty on long journeys. Not sure about bending arm to counteract this, how about we try it out on the dealers arms first Twisted Evil Laughing

I twisted mine ages ago, completely cures it. It sounds like you need to twist clockwise as you look down the wiper from the end to the pivot.

Whichever direction the wiper is travelling when it judders, you are twisting it so it can drag the rubber over the screen with the wiping edge trailing. If it can't trail it judders.

Mine was contantly juddering on the drivers wiper at the top half of the wipe area as the blade approached the top of the travel. It was smooth on the return. The clockwise twist worked a treat.

Wrap a piece of cloth around the arm, just below where the arm attaches to the blade, I then got a pair of mole grips and gently twisted it just a couple of degrees.

Obviously if it makes it worse, then twist again the other way.

I wish I had known about this site before. I have just bought new wiper blades as one started to part company from the holder. I had previously started to clean them with Autoglynn Rubber treatment - helps to ease the judder - but I thought it may have destroyed the rubber. Now I suspect my blades were damaged at PDI (bad experience with supplier, so no confidence there).

Hi all,
I also had the juddering wiper problem, especially on the driver's side. It was so bad that it was better to turn them off!!!
Eventually, over on Eyre Peninsula, the blade seperated off the base mechanism in heavy rain, rendering the wiper useless. Had to go to the nearest Pub and wait for the rain to stop. Nearest dealer (in Port Lincoln) had no blades in stock, but the blade was replaced in 24 hours via air freight from Black Forest Landrover direct to Coffin Bay Post Office, and I fitted the replacement blades myself. This was in April this year. This was covered by LR under warranty, and in discussion with Black Forest LR they appeared to have experienced this problem previously.

However, the shuddering was still present. Spoke to my friendly work neighbour, a BMW mechanic, and he said that this was a common problem on may vehicle makes, and that BMW even had a tool to ensure the correct "bending angle" for their vehicle's wiper blade arms (typical teutonic fix - a tool to bend wipers!). After talking to him, I went home, got two shifting spanners and some rag so as to not mark the wiper arm, and bent it slightly just as per Gareth's comments above.

Result: No more shuddering. Fixed. Can't really see the bending unless looking closely. Previously I thought it may have been to do with dirt on the windscreen, worn blades, etc, but not so; it is all to do with the angle the blade wipes on the screen. Increasing the trailing angle so it trails and not digs into the screen as it wipes is the secret.

Cheers,
Geoff R.

Now 28,000K and all's well. Just purchased Rhino roof racks and Kayak carriers. They whistle something terrible compared to the LR supplied rack bars.

Geoff, admittedly off topic, but I recall someone using Velcro adhesive tape to interrupt the airflow and reduce the whistling but I can't find the post and the site's Search facility told me that I had attempted a new search too soon and had to wait a while!!

Back on topic Mr Moderator, Brisbane has had a bit of rain the last 3 days (after a drought of some proportion - water supplies down to 27% in dams) and my blades are not shuddering too much but if they become as bad as posted before then I will try the vice grips method of realignment and report back here.

so far @ 4000 miles we have not had the judder but if we do I know to twist the wiper arms. Very Happy

However I do like a clean smooth windscreen and find by using a sonus fine clay bar on the windscreen everytime I wash the car using the car wash soap in bucket to lubricate keeps the glass on all my cars tip top.

you should try it you'd be amazed the black grub grime it takes off.

Took my car to local stealer & they changed bth from wipers FOC for new set, said wrong ones fitted at manufacture. Was done at 3 months/3000 miles. Now absolutely perfect.

Mine went into the dealers last week for the enhancements. I complained about the juddering/noisey wipers. When I got it back, the wipers were silent - even on a dry screen. They're fantastic now. Everytime they have swipped smoothly and quietly across the screen, even with it covered in flies.
I spoke to the dealer to ask what they did. Apparantly they just changed the blades. My wipers have never been this good, not even when I collect the car when new. Maybe they have improved the wiper blades. I'll see what part number they are later.
