Just floored my rack !
Always fancied a roofrack on my D3, but couldn't do with the noise or faffing around trying to take it off.
So, got myself a Rhino-half rack.
It fits to the roof crossbars and only requires 8 thumbwheels to be turned to free & remove.
Trouble is, the base is just heavy duty wire mesh [pic as avater - or larger pic in gallery].
So I set abou thinking on ideas to floor it.
Tread plate seemed the best way, though I'd have to have it powdercoated when done.
However after reading a camping magazine I came accross interlocking floor tiles that would seem to do the job.
Visited the local caravan/camping shop and came away with two pack at just under £20 the lot.
There's 4 to a pack, but I only needed 6 - so have 2 x left over.
The stuff is a soft rubber but is meant for foot traffic so must therefore be durable.
The cutouts and protrussions are for my kayak carrying system - dead easy to cut around.
I've tied it down with cable ties and after a few hundred miles all is holding ok [still need to trim the ends though].
So here it is:

12mm thick and very light Kevin.
It's a sort of rubber/foam material.
but maybe not as durable as a Wilton
Now that it seems to work, I'm going to glue them all together to make one large mat.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Yep, bit of noise, but not too much.
Also loss of mpg.
But that's why I went for what I did, cos I can take it off and on easily.
