MY Detachable Towbar STOLEN
Just went to move my Disco 3 and noticed the detachable towbar was gone..it was definetly there last night before going to bed. Looks like someone stole it during the night . Not sure how easy they are to remove or how quick it can be done.
My Disco has been parked on my drive day in day out for the last 5 years with the towbar added on some 4 years ago after purchasing it from a nice person on this site. I know its my fault for leaving it on the car permantently but I use it a lot to tow my motorbikes.
Really Pi***d off as they are expensive to buy. So on that note if anybody has one for sale I am in need of one.
Any one who can help much appreciated.
Just to be on the safe side and protect my ladder I now park the car with the rear against the house.
Bloody Thiefs.

They are very easy to steal. Do you still have your spare?
Might be better to replace it with a fixed towball, a lot harder for the tea-leaf scum to nick. Besides, if you put another removable one on it'll be noticed by whoever nicked the original one.

Cheers, let me know about the plate.
just out of interest, did they not make a plate over the detachable towbar that was welded or bolted in place to make it harder to steal..... bit late now
how would i install a fixed towbar?

Good luck at removing mine, the lock mechanism on the removable part is quite solidified. I’ve given it a nice treatment of CRC MoS2 a few times and yet it taunts me with “thou shalt not pass”. The previous owner must have put it on once and then forgotten all about it.

See above for Ray's links. ISTR there are some devices that lock in the removable bar in place but that's all I know as I have a fixed one. Re fitting a fixed one, a few options but re fitting, waaaaaaay above my techie paygrade.

@kajtzu:
mine was on the car for 4 years never been removed, the key hardly worked and was rusted and they still managed to nick it.
if you're having trouble taking yours off, ask a thief
