Keep my D3 or get a D4
Hi,
I have a 2007 D3 HSE seven with 130.000 km on the clock. It has rock sliders, complete chassis protection, auxiliary air system, etc. I use it for family trips, off road on a regular basis and all sorts of works.
I have sold my daily car (A5 Audi) and was considering just changing it for another coupe sporty car.
Another solution would be to sell the D3 and get a D4 for daily, family trips and all road (I have a third sporty car for speed and track).
What would be your opinion on that?
I know the D4 is a much better onroader than the D3, what about offload?

I had the same debate. Having always bought the latest car of whatever i fancied and lost so much money in cost of change and depreciation I have taken the view that the cost of change doesn't warrant the difference. A D3 will do what a D4 will. Yes the D4 is smarter inside and the engine and gearbox are great but is it really worth the cost of change and loss of depreciation?
Keep the D3 and put the money you save into a nice toy.

Yep, agreed. Though D3 for play and a proper, reliable & efficient car for the rest. Best of both worlds.

I've also had this debate with my 2008 Disco3 HSE. With 32k miles and all the extras, the dealer indicated £18500 trade vs £53000 for the same spec Disco4. Mind the gap as they say on the tube. I'll stick with the Disco3.

Wonder what this mild winter is doing for D3 residuals. Was nice when values we're going up, esp selling a D3 after 2 years/20k for virtually what I paid for it. Is that ancient history?

But there is a decreasing "a D3 is for winter, not for life" window. As spring approaches peeps will think "I'll muddle through" more than before. Just a thought.

do both
buy the D4 with every intention of then selling the D3.
that way you can convince yourself that youve done the sensible thing by trading the D3 in but enjoy owning it until you finally part with it.

Personally I feel that it is too late in the D4 life cycle to trade up to one from a D3.
I'm waiting for the D5 in 2014/15. That said my D3 is not my daily driver and only does 8/9k miles pa.

@Jeremy, I have exactly the same configuration, mileage almost identical, and was thinking along the same lines for a D4, but I would have thought about 25k for a private sale??
