Key wont come out - thinks it's in reverse

Ongoing fault this week...

When parking up and turning off, the key wont come out as the vehicle thinks it's in the reverse gear.

Turning on and off usually doesn't make a difference but occasionally solves it. Not always though, it was away on a LRA flat-bed last week. Now not using the D3 in fear that we can't get the key out somewhere less convenient than the driveway or nearby shops.

The dealer's first advice was "Maybe you've not pushed it in to Park properly". They then confessed to having "not tightening something enough" ( Thud ) and coughed up for the first repair, but it's ongoing. Anyone had this before? The D3s now stationary as we use the Bimmer and V70 to compensate though taking 2 cars everywhere isn't great (think of the carbon footprint Whistle ).

The future of this car with us is beginning to look bleak.

Have you tried to push the gear selector fully forward, it will go a little further than 'Park', hold it there and take the key out.

It happens with mine every once in a while. So far...fiddling with the key or playing with the shifter as WD says, or both, has worked.
I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

Will it be replaced with a newer one, or will you be leaving the fold? Big Cry

I reckon the gear selector needs an adjustment. Did you car not have gear selection problems in the early days CY?
