Keys.

Bound to happen.

Go shopping with the missus, keys in her handbag.

Drop her off at the shops and pop over to a LR sales place nearby (looking for a Disco 2 diesel for Morocco trip!).

Park up and switch off engine......

No, I didnt notice the notice on the dash.

Fortunately, guy at the dealers gave me a lift back to the shops etc etc.

A question......if we leave the keys in the car, should it open simply by pulling the handle....I ask as did this as well, and the doors wouldnt open, fortunately it was on the drive so popped back in for spare set.

In the meantime, I have bought a man-bag for keys, wallet and iphone !

I fear the keyless entry on the HSE is a factor here - at least by having to click the button on the remote, you know where the keys are when you get in. That said, I still think not having a slot somewhere in the steering column or dash (a la Volvo) is a solution looking for a problem...

I didnt think you could lock the keys in either - but I managed it first time, which is either really lucky or really unlucky depending on where your spare set are.

Might try it again tomorrow, see if it was just a glitch.

Didnt realise you could drive the car away from the keys either, nor that a man of 43 could be quite so comfortable with a handbag. Lifes full of surprises....

OK, from what I know of this system, and they're all pretty much the same, you should not be able to lock the car with the keys inside.

Now, in the Merc E500 I had this was completely true. If there was a key inside the car would not lock regardless. I know this from trying to lock the car when wifey was with me - she tends to put her handbag in the boot and this had her set of keys in it.

So, I've just tried the same with our Jag XF and it WILL lock with one set in the car as long as you have one outside the car. Since Jag is probably exactly the same implementation as the LR I suspect this is why it locked without complaining. BTW the Jag has a slot for the smart key as well if you choose to use it.

Also, it seems you can only lock the door nearest you using the keyless buttons. For example, wife's key in passenger door pocket, my key on stool outside the passenger door and drivers door buttons don't work. Passenger door ones do.

The bit about it locking with a key inside is the most concerning to me though. Needs a bit of a tweak that Thumbs Up

OK so not only can you lock the other set of keys in the car, it locks (and alarms!) even if the key you're locking it with is inside the vehicle (ie while sat inside). Neighbours probably think I'm barmy now, but never mind...

Is there some confusion here? I cannot lock the keys in mine, if I am using the keyless entry. I can lock a set inside if I use the button on the fob, but that isn't using the key less entry.

Nope, no confusion.

I put one set in the car, keep the other set in my pocket. Push the little button on the handle, and it locks and sets the alarm.

I put my set in the house, come back out, and cannot enter the car, even though i can see the keys though the window.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but it does it every time.

Just have to be careful with keys, bit ironic though as keyless system meant to be easier.

Still lovin' it though!

OK, I understand. You are not doing anything wrong; the presence of the key within the vehicle (for obvious reasons) is not enough to activate the keyless entry. They key has to be outside the wireless perimeter, as opposed to inside it.
