By way of an update, the insurance company have settled the claim as a total loss. I actually got a very fair offer from the insurance company, only a few pounds less than the car cost and they covered the costs for the kids car seats in full.
I am collecting a replacement car later this week which whilst isn't quite as highly spec'ed (no wade sensors or blind spot monitoring), but it is lower mileage.
I also had a call from the police today who had no news (and no surprise there) but did confirm this is quite a common occurrence. They did suggest had a tracker been fitted, it would have likely been recovered quite quickly after being stolen.
Anyway, looking for suggestions on trackers and/or other theft preventatives - any thoughts?
Thanks,
Matt

Can Track T9 device... battery powered, find a brilliant place to hide it and forget about it... battery lasts 7-12 years dependant on usage.. fit and forget!
If you sell your car before then just swap it over!
Brilliant bit of kit!
Then also consider a Ghost immobiliser!

That Can Track ( https://www.cantrack.com/asset-tracking/cl...usageguide ) certainly looks impressive, is the £199 inclusive do you know or is there a subscription charge on top? I can't seem to find out from the website Cheers Ian

I use them at work on some kit.... only reports once a day hence they are almost impossible for the baddy to search for them transmitting... there are no wires to trace and follow back, no aerial to trace...
They are sealed in resin so you can mount them in hostile areas...ideal for mounting under trailers/chassis etc...
Once activated they work in a similar manner to a normal Tracker..... you can also locate them yourself via the log in page... it will ping you it’s daily location and it’s battery life...
Gets my vote.... there is a smaller one ideal for smaller items but obviously the battery life is much shorter!
I really like the look of the Ghost immobiliser - it's just a shame it isn't Thatcham recognised. As I understand it, the car will start without the code, but stall before it is driven off unless the code has been entered, making it less obvious.
The Can Track kit also looks very impressive - they have taken a different tack with this, and it's up to the user to chose between long battery life and frequency of updates. They also employ a team of investigators to find your kit once it has been reported stolen, turning on the built in UHF and updating GPS every 30mins - that is impressive.
Thanks,
Matt

It depends on whose fitted it and what circuitry they are using... mine sends a short burst to the starter but it does not start....
Neither of the devices are currently Thatcham approved , both are relatively new to market to deal with these recent trends...the other reason is that the Thatcham tracking and aftermarket standards are all being rejigged later this year....
Apparently the insurers want Thatcham to concentrate on reducing vehicle injuries rather than theft issues...
after all, vehicles are now SO secure straight out of the factory.

I remember the good old days when DG would assure us that all was well and this kind of theft wasn't an issue. We slept so well in our beds then. I don't sleep so well now, but that might be the VC.

It is and it still isn't Del ...except of course to those few it unfortunately happens to and those masses that are paranoid enough to think its an epidemic. If they want it they will take it ..no point in worrying about it

Just coz you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you!!
I'm not too worried, if it gets nicked it gets nicked. It's just a car, we loose far more valuable things (bad anniversary yesterday). If it goes I'll get something to replace it.
