My 2005 Silver S TDV6

Hi everyone,

After 8 years of Freelander ownership (and ongoing), we've finally decided and managed to purchase our dream car. It took several months of searching online, seeing and test driving 4 cars (all 5 seaters: a 2005 S, a 2007 SE, a 2008 SE and a 2009 S on coil springs). Both SEs were crap, the 2009 S was great (with only 51000 km, ca. 31000 miles on the clock) but, in the end, the 2005 S in Zambezi silver, with only 109000 km (ca. 65000 miles) on the clock, a single owner and full service history won our hearts.
Although it is an S, it was factory equipped with: air suspension and terrain response, dual zone climate, heated front & rear cloth seats, heated and power folded mirrors, heated windshield, the 40:30:40 split rear seats (like on the 7 seater), the extra front passenger cup holder (none of the other cars had this). Furthermore, the previous owner has added cruise control and radio controls on the steering wheel, a Safari type snorkel, 2 Hella Rallye 1000 spot lights, rear parking sensors, an Alpine display mounted in place of the original display connected to a Garmin navigation system and a dvd player with AUX in and USB input. The software has already been upgraded as I have the digital clock on the center screen and follow me home lights.
The car looks really well looked after, but does have a few issues that need fixing. Today I changed a front wheel bearing (the other one was recently changed by the previous owner) and, on the opposite side, a driveshaft gator. One EGR valve needs replacing, so I will most probably delete them both.
Furthermore, despite being 12 years old (but under the recommended mileage), the belts have not been done, so this will be my first priority. The question now remains if I should change the oil pump or not?
Anyway, here is our silver elephant:
Cheers,

My new addition to our family is the same model and colour as yours although it has covered 93.5k miles. After calling the people who serviced it previously I found that the timing belts had not been changed so she is booked in for that. I have spoken to the garage who are doing the work and was informed that I did not need to do the oil pump as the tech knows what he is doing and will not overtighten the pully arm which causes the failure so thought nothing more of it. Reading other peoples recommendations and speaking to another specialist I have instructed my garage to include the replacement of the oil pump and also the thermostat housing whilst they are doing the belts. I would rather pay an additional 3-400 £ now than a new engine in a years time tbh. The choice is your tho. Cheers.

Thank you. You are surely right. I have just ordered the oil pump, crankshaft seal and bolt from a Citroen dealer for 156£ (including VAT). This dealer has never ordered this part before Laughing
Are there known issues with the thermostat housing on TDV6? I've dug around a bit on the forum and only read about such issues on the petrol versions.

Cheers!

Hi, I was told that they can start to leak so for circa £20 might as well change whilst they are there. Just trying to pre-empt possible future issues. Thumbs Up

Today marks two weeks of Disco 3 ownership for us. So far, we've covered around 2000 km on paved roads of very variable quality, sand, mud and grass, axle twisters etc (around 10% off-road) with just one new issue (front brake pad warn sensor playing up sometimes). We have thus been enjoying the car thoroughly and even took our 11 months old daughter on her first camping trip to Dobrogea (S-E Romania, at and near the Black Sea). Really hope Disco will keep up the good work Very Happy
