Hi would just like to say that this was my brother and I, we drove this back in January when the lane was open for use, and I knew nothing about this hole, and still didn't until it was too late (litteraly, couldn't see it coming), otherwise we wouldn't have driven it, and wouldn't have driven into the hole, if we'd seen it coming. I'm glad to here that the Disco2ers also turned back when they realised the damaged, and how bad it would be to continue, I think that this should be commended. I'm sure there are people out there who would have driven backwards and forwards, for fun, they would be the people causing the damage.
I agree with the people from here, if there is nothing on a sign at the start of the lane, then you should be forgiven for driving it, without know that it is closed, the Internet is a very large thing, and although there may be information on a lot of sites, it's very often difficult to get the information to the right people, as not everyone reads every forum, or every notice site. If there was one official goverenment site that could house details (and up to date, unlike local councils) then people would have a single point of reference.
However, I also agree with Difflock users, that perhaps, as I will know do having seen the problems that can be caused, check before using a byway, try a few searches on the internet, and try to look at as many sites as possible, rather than relying upon any single site (not that I'm saying you did). I'd rather the be safe than sorry.
We all just have to hope that if the council try to close the route that someone is available to put across both sides of the argument, and show that this was not inentially ignored, and at the sign of causing anymore damage that was first caused the users turned back.
Just wanted to put my side of the argument across.
Hopefully without affending anyone.

Agree with you, there needs to be a concrete database, not the hotchpotch of random and sometimes unpublicised local action, often at incredibly short or no noticeI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. 'Green lanes' are still public roads - you are entitled to drive them despite what kn*bs like green laner may think... one of the many reasons why I prefer overlanding outside of the EU nanny state 8)
