NickJ, fuel might be expensive, but you can't cover so many miles on such a small island... Whistle Wink

And if my memory serves me, the coastal roads had a 40MPH speed limit and a 15MPH in the town center, built up areas. I know when i worked on Guernsey the fuel was silly cheap as well compared to the price of living compared to here. What that will be now, near on twenty years later, i'd be guessing.

In which case, don't get one with a DPF, as you'll never achieve the "cleaning" cycle.

... and in the interests of balance and fairness, of my two cars my Disco is the cheaper (but it wouldn't be if I could get the V8 I wanted.... )... Thumbs Up

35mph max 25mph town centres

fuel is around 20 -30 p per litre cheaper than UK which includes road tax duty as well

....... but........

stop starting, never getting into top gear hammers the mpg.

works out cheaper in the UK as better mpg by far on any car.

I remember feeling the same before I bought our D3 in 2006. Ironically it was the dismal reliability of the previous car - Merc ML270 - which persuaded me to take the plunge. I figured LR couldn't do any worse!

In fact it has done rather better. Okay, it hasn't been 100% reliable and there have been some annoying repeated problems - stuck tailgate x 3 for example.

However its without doubt the most versatile car I've ever owned - a luxury limo when needed, a big bus to take the family ski-ing, a workhorse when I need to tow a trailer full of rubbish. And undoubtedly the most comfortable, best ride ofany car I've ever had.

My biggest gripe has been the dealers - some great but some really dreadful. Being told I should view the dirty, base model 2-door fiesta that I was offered as a loaner on my first ever visit as a "Land Rover appreciation car" ( ie it makes you appreciate your Land Rover) is something I will never forget!

But to be fair we didn't get much better treatment at the Porsche dealers for SWMBO's Boxster either.

The problem with this 7x3 mile island of ours is there's only one LR authorised dealer, as there are with all the car makes. Not easy to shop around for the best deal/service/happy happy staff.

And here's another one! Thumbs Up

I get around 18 - 22 mpg depending on traffic and how late for work I am. A weekend drive around the coast can result in 30/32 or so.

I tend to have the car serviced at Yeovil when visiting the mother in law (AKA The Beast of Exmoor) on the mainland ; convenient and efficient, friendly service from a bunch of LR enthusiasts. Unfortunately I haven't been able to make it over there this year which is a bit of a pain.
