After a long boat ride, he is home. And my wife has called it Lando... I tried telling her it has to be a girl car, but she insisted.

Welcome to the V8 club. Wife dropped me off in ours the other day and when it pulled away it sounded great.

Ours is called Ollie as it likes a drink (Oliver Read)

Sounds like it was exported originally and registered locally then returned to the UK and re-registered. It is a common theme at DVLA to register the make but show the model as unknown... the re-registration process was a manual input system into the system. Each vehicle registration office were allocated a series of plates to issue.
This would account for it being LHD and the unknown on the vehicle file.

Good luck with it! Nice car! Very Happy

@ kajtzu
Thank You!
Jeeves is a great name... reminds me of the days of AskJeeves.com Very Happy And the plate matches perfectly (although maybe it was the inspiration for the name?)

@ Journeyman
Thanks. I have reached out to LR to get the original build sheet - Hopefully, it will unlock some of the questions I have.
My plan will be to resort it to factory as much as possible, including replacing some accessories that were removed from it over its life.

@ ruben
Gracias!

@ pjm-84
Wow, ours look very similar. I think mine came with the front headlamp guards, and I was planning on fitting them anyway. But will wait for the original buildsheet to come through before adding them.
And Ollie is a great name!

@ galwaygreen
It is interesting indeed.!

@Farmer Chalk
After a bit more digging, this was the 2nd LR Disco registered by LR in 2004.
Landrover register their factory, prototype and pre-production cars starting with VX - I am in the process of documenting all the VX04 cars that were registered that year, to see what exactly they registered when and how.
It was definitely registered in the UK First by LR as it carries an early VX04 plate, but it could have been exported, then reimported, then back out again.
Once I have some docs from LR, I will reach out to DVLA and see if I can find someone willing to share some history above what I can get from a HPI Check.
It is very possible this car was exported to another climate for long term testing by LR, then re-imported after its mission.
I will be taking the VIN number and trying to do HPI checks in every country... but thats a really long manual and expensive process Very Happy
All in the name of history I guess.

Then this confirms it even better then!
Yours would have been registered by the factory as a prototype...it is very common to see left hookers running around with their initial testing...
Great news for you!
Hence the anomaly with the dvla record...

Brilliant!
Now you just have to save up for the fuel!

Surely being a V8 of British origin, she should be called Elizabeth the Thirst?
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I live on a small island, the fuel is not a worry for me, here its about £0.81 / liter. The bigger concern was getting parts to replace a broken or worn Diesel. Same same but different expenses Very Happy

@ NoDo$h
That is an absolute epic name! Alas the wife has spoken and named it Lando...

IID Tool arrived yesterday, and I got stung for import taxes Evil or Very Mad but such is life.

Today I managed to update almost all the possible updates that are included, but I have ordered the "California Stop" update from GAP.

The first time I experienced the issue, I had flashbacks to multiple cars that had failing transmissions. Thanks to the search here, I discovered that its more of a software issue than a hardware one.

Was nice to finally get the 4x4i display programmed, gives some semi useful info while off road.
Also managed to check all the faults, and find out which rear parking sensor is the one who knocked out the whole system.

My LR parts order has been held up for some reason, so fixing interior bits, and doing the transmission oil change will have to wait a bit longer - unlikely to arrive before christmas now.
Also its the same thing with my Android Auto Head Unit Sad

Was really looking forward to spending the Xmas holidays doing things on the car.

Will attempt to find the roof leak this weekend.
And will be posting more pics soon!

Where is the water leak showing up on the inside. Just had a flood in my 2005 HSE drivers footwell due to leaking external 'A' post trim. Very common on early vehicles . Took me over two weeks to dry it out, not really the right time of year.
