The above will not work to guarantee a watertight seal to the engine, as the pipe from the inner wing is quite loose. Both air intakes can be sealed with mastic against the outer wing, however mods will have to be made to the inner pipe to seal it to the inner wing if you want a 100% seal to the engine. 
I have not bothered to seal the inner wing pipe on my car. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Where are the computers in the LR3?
I got caught in a flooded creek in my td5 defender with airtec snorkel. Afterwards I found water in the intake and right through the airfilter and even the turbo. That didn't stop the engine though, the computer was under the drivers seat in a vented box and was full of water.
Snorkels don't stop water ingress, they slow it down.

I dont know about the LR3/D3. If I believe the hype the whole vehicle is loaded with fibre optics.
I do know that the defenders computer (ECU) can be relocated and a harness is available to extend it's position and height thus stopping your problem. regards
