Camera Car - what now no D4?

I note - the 'One Show Rickshaw Challenge for Children in Need' are still using a D4 as a camera car... (for the split tailgate obviously...) - what are camera crews gonna' use now?

You need the split tailgate to be legal for filming out the back on UK streets. Luckily there's still plenty of D4's around for crews to use for a few more years. After that... who knows? Anyone else remember the old Citroen Safari Estate that went on in TV for quite a long time after they'd stopped making them? It's sad to see LR abandon the utility market but eventually someone else will step up to offer an alternative I'm sure.

L405 would seem the choice going forwards.

Why not a pickup with a cab on the back? Put air springs on it, job done.

In a pick up the driver is isolated from the camera operator, although I suppose it could be modified. Take out the rear window etc. So much easier in a D4 though Sad

I was watching the making of the latest Transformers and noticed they had a pretty trick Porsche Cayenne with a boom arm coming off the roof, looked really cool. Maybe a different league to a D4 with a cameraman sat in the boot and probably out of reach for most productions. They were using it both off road and then for the high speed chases through London etc.

Known in the film world as a 'Russian Arm'. They're great, but a bit too pricey for most TV programmes. Only time I've used one was on a car commercial.
