Do i take that components are like a big mechano outfit and just snap in place with the ball being the only mounting in the vehicle?

Yes, the arms are basically a rod with ball clamps at either end, which can be tightened around the balls. You get 2 or 3 arms, with ball joints, and the angle of the arms can be adjusted to enable you to put the laptop in any position.

You'll be all set. All you need is someone in a Defender with a paper map to follow you around and tell you when you've missed a turn Whistle
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I believe he doesn't have any balls at the moment, but may have some in the next few weeks. TazDaz was asking him. Maybe you and he can get together and get Ray to do a pair of balls. Whistle

Sorry. I'll get me coat....

Yes. I've got one of Ray's. Top job it is too. Thumbs Up

Top Tip:
Ray's balls are a bit slippy, being made out of shiny steel. The RAM clamps can't quite get a good enough grip and severe offroad bumps can cause the whole assembly to slip. Cover Ray's ball in Copydex rubber solution glue and let it dry thouroughly before you fit it. That provides a "grippy" ball surface for the RAM clamp thing and it won't slip. Mine stayed erect all the way round Salisbury Plain. Thumbs Up

I used a ram mount ball and made a bracket that bolts to the seat fixing I then bolted the ram mount ball to the bracket.

Nice one. The RAM balls are made of hard rubbery stuff, so are grippier than steel balls.
