Chap at GPSWarehouse less than helpful when I ordered my RAM parts....
Their website says that they go the extra mile for their customers......yeah right....
However...very impressed with the RAM mounts...

Hi Ray
Thanks for that, it looks like just what I need.
I see you're listed for Tong but not confirmed - are you going? if so any chance I could see the mount there?
Cheers

I'm planning a 6 mth trip though Aust. centre and west coast next year. I am thinking about running a bluetooth gps and laptop but am worried about the laptop HDD lasting the distance.
Has anyone done harsh 4wding with a laptop onboard? how'd it go?
The other thing I was thinking of doing was putting the laptop under one of the front seats in a nicely padded position and running a 7 or 8 inch touchscreen (they're very cheap on ebay) up on the dash.
This will leave a lot more room in the cabin and allow me to do major planning on the laptop overnight while still letting me do basic functionality on the touchscreen when we're on the move.

I've been using my laptop for off-road navigation for a while now. In the D3, I put it in the map pocket behind the passenger seat and run a remote touch screen attached to the dash.
I also use it in my 2a, on a RAM mount attached to the dash.
No problems so far

I've got one of these which works well and can be removed in seconds.
I saw one at a trade show in Taiwan and immediately liked it, simple design, solid and robust. Sadly we couldn't negotiate a 'review' sample but on retruning to the UK found them on eBay. Ordered two and both arrived quickly although we were slapped with a £20 RM surcharge for customs duties.
The base comes in three types to fit most seats. I can take pics of mine if anyone is interested?Darren Griffin

Here is a pic of the D3 installation. The LT is behind the passenger seat, powered from the aux power socket on the rear of the console. The cable runs along the side of the console, up the side of the dash into the top glove box. Using the cig lighter socket to power the touch screen.
The screen is a 7" Lilliput. With hindsight, I would have got a bigger one.

I think the Lilliput screens are available in different sizes. Look here;
