Large Fuel leak help....please!

Hi guys,
I haven't had my D3 long, and today filled up fully for the first time, ready for a run down to Cornwall. Thing is, I got to the point where the diesel pump clicked off, then gently squeezed it again, to make up the last 26p worth to round it up (OCD on payments!).

I was only when i turned to put the pump back that I noticed what seemed like a large amount of diesel running away from my car Shocked I got down as best I could, without lying in the stuff, and there was a small, steady stream running from the large hole/opening (approx 50p size, I think) directly below the fuel tank. There was also some fuel dripping/slowly running from other openings in the chassis. To say I'm concerned is an understatement! No fuel came out of the filler neck at me, and the stream slowed to a drip, then stopped, the level on the dial not dropping at all.

Obviously, i called the garage folks over and we dealt with the spillage, but has anyone ever heard of this before/experienced it, etc? I've got an AA warranty with the car, but hoping I don't have to use it less than a week after getting the thing! Is there something I can look at/deal with simply, etc is what I mean, I think.....

Any help would be appreciated guys! ....... sorry to ramble on!

Bow down

Thanks Methley....sounds like it Sad Wondering if I could do the same with a poly resin......assuming I can drop the tank, etc, myself? How big a job is it to drop, anyone know? Don't imagine it's THAT difficult...... he says! lol

Thanks for those mate.....I searched for overflow, leak etc, but not fuel tank! Just need to use up 70 odd litres of diesel, then start looking into how to drop the tank then! Are there any guides on here giving a 'how-to', by any chance? I can't see any, but then, I've already proved my 'searching' prowess! lol

Thanks to those that I've spoken (emailed) to about this.....had a bit of a result - the garage I bought the car from is going to have it back in after Christmas and sort it for me (new tank, it appears). Glad I didn't have to try and tackle it myself on my drive, if I'm honest!

Thanks chaps Thumbs Up

Land Rover Have released a new modified tank and done away with that large breather on the top. Make sure you get a modified Tank or it will happen again. All to common fault, we see at least one a week..
