Disco_Mikey, mine is definitely noisy in my opinion, but hopefully just normal. Mine appears to have all covers there. Just very clattery.

I can confirm the 07 is more noisier than the 06 model.
I test drove a 06 model, then ordered the 07 model, when the 07 arrived it was more noiser than the 06.
I put it down to it being the newer eu4 engine and different fuel pressure.

Did blanked EGR make a big difference with noise then? I don't believe mine are blanked, not sure if they're original or not.

My D3 was getting more & more rattly slowly over several months before she died. Less rattly on branded diesel, even less so on super diesel. I don't know if her rattlyness was related to her final demise but my sage advise is either "don't worry about it, what will be will be" or "get rid of it now". If it's going to worry you then the latter, if the engine packs up next week will cause you real financial pain then do the latter tomorrow. Otherwise enjoy her and don't let her give you sleepless nights.

But she left us doing what she did best, looking after me on one of my not so wild long haul road trips. Gratuities pic from a prev trip.

She’ll be fondly remembered but in the grand scheme of things she’s only a car, there are far more precious things to loose.

Just to add to this thread, the other half drove past in the D3 whilst I was getting the bins in, it sounds fine from outside.. so maybe it's just something I'll have to live with.
Maybe once this tapping at idle mentioned in my other thread has been diagnosed (people are saying it sounds like aux belt tensioner) it will sound spot on and I'll be happy!

Value engineering. Once the road testers have finished, bits of sound insulation will be omitted to cut production costs😢
