Leak - odur blank liquid. |
|
Towed a big heavy trailer home today.
Its been quite warm as well, so the AC has been running.
We reversing the motor up the drive (slight incline and round 2 corners) in low range, The motor was left running as I tried to disconnected the trailer.
It was a bit of a so I had a silly Idea to use the air suspension, that didnt work too well as It dropped quicker then I could get the coupling off. After a lot of messing around I got the trailer off and parked the D3.
I noticed a large pool of clear / odourless water on the ground, I went back to the motor and looked under and found a second pool.
Its coming from under the bulk head, so I am right thinking this is condensed water from the AC ??
Any tips for towing heavy trailers ? never towed with an automatic before, should I leave in sport so that it doesnt change up to early and use the command shift and hold the gears down hill ?

it sounds like the a/c. if you have rear a/c youll also get a pool of water from the rear lefthand side.
Re towing with auto box. I tow a twin axle caravan and have recently started leaving the box in sport. Ive noticed it obviously performs better, but I also get a 2-3 mpg improvement. Duncan

I too tow in sport mode - not sure why it's better, but it always seems to be in a better gear. That's with a 1-2tonne load/trailer with logs on it. In the summer I also tow a large rib up to Lake Geirionydd in North Wales every day when I help on a kids camp. I tend to use command shift for this as the single track lane changes angle so much.
Character on here does a load of towing - so might have some better advice! 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

My experience is that when the engine goes to lower revs and *then* the auto box changes gears, you feel it judder quite a bit. Putting the box into sports mode will keep the revs up and the juddering away. Also, when you're approaching a hill/bridge/whatever slope, you can use command shift to change down before the auto box needs to. You have an advantage the auto box doesn't have... eyes!
