LED front indicators aren't bright enough...

Hi all

I've just completed a full LED conversion on my D3, inside and out. It's nice to have sharp, crisp. clear and bright light all around. I replaced the D2S xenon bulbs, the H7 main beams and the driving lamp bulbs while I was at it to avoid any more bulb fiddling in the near future.

The only ones which have disappointed me are the front indicators. I fitted these from Advanced Factors and wired them in with the recommended 50w resistors from AF as well. Unlike the rest of the LEDs, these seem faint. Whilst I like the instantaneous cut on/off of their flash, they are not as bright and noticeable as the rest of the bulbs (perhaps not even as bright as the old halogen indicators were!).

Can anybody recommend me some super bright LED indicator bulbs which will fit that 3157 socket for the front indicators please?

Many thanks,
Chris

Chris, the Advanced stuff is usually pretty good but allow me to ask this question: How have you wired in the resistor? It should go across the pos + neg wires ( in parallel ) to the indicator bulb. If by chance you've wired it just to the pos ( inline ) it will very probably reduce the brightness of the LED.

Hey Narpy, yeah that was my first thought as well but I've wired it in parallel as you say, crossing both the + and - wires. The same way I've done the rear indicators too, and they've fine (and bright!).

The rest of my LEDs are AF too so it seems strange that these ones seem so weak..

Can only be the bulb I would have thought then.
It is possible to get differing brightness of LEDs maybe you've inadvertantly bought ones that have a lower lumen rating. Big Cry

I have these. Almost too bright to look at.

Where did you mount the resistors? I've read they can get hot and in some cases can melt through plastic. I've got LED lights just need to get resistors and work out how to wire them in and where to place the resistors.

Do you have a list of the headlight globes that you replaced (what wattage) and did the headlights require resistor to fool the canbus Embarassed

only the indicator required a load resistor.

old bulb
H7 main beam
5W5 parking light / orange side marker in USA
P21W indicator - ok i'm guessing now

I think Chris has just replaced like for like while he had the headlamps out. I'm pretty sure he's not replaced HID with LED Thumbs Up
