LED lights (the really 'kin bright kind). US members maybe ?

Anyone have opinions or, preferably, direct feedback on the LED lightbars available from VisionX and E-Series...? Maybe some of the US members ? (These seem popular in the States)

Are they really that bright, especially when combined with the D3 main beam...? Or would conventional (Lightforce, Roo Lites etc) be the same.

May consider the following:

2 of these at 6" size. Spec:
Quote:
New 6" E Series High Intensity L.E.D. Light by Rigid Industries.38 watts. General specs are: 3.3 amps per 10” 38 watts 3200 Lumens (per 10”) @95% efficiency. 6150 Avg Kelvins 20 LED’s per 10” 12v-24v 3.3” high, 3.75” deep

Or VisionX Reflex:

Quote:
feature 10-watt LEDs that produce an astonishing 900 Lumens per LED, meaning each LED puts out as much light as a typical car headlight. A 12" bar will produce 5,400 Lumens, the most lumens per inch in its class.

Would be a 12"bar with 6 LED's.

Pearls of wisdom anyone...?

Very interesting look there ?

If it were me ? ....

..... I'd dare to be different and fit the first option ...

... just because it's so different to anything else.

Wisdom? Far from it as I haven't got a clue....

Are these for your roof rack? Mr. Green Mr. Green

As far as the specs go, they certainly seem to throw out a lot of light (especially the second one), but I'm not sure how far that light will go...

...using bi-xenons as an example, these use a reflector and then a lens to focus and spread the light very accurately to where it is needed....the same for halogens (but without the lens)...

...I'm not sure how effective the small reflectors/lenses that these LEDs have will be to do this job and I think it's worth investigating before buying them as they may just spread light everywhere and lose a lot of efficiency....

Apart from that it sounds like a cool project....have you got prices yet? I have a feeling they won't be cheap Shocked

I mounted a Solstice on the rack as a high up reversing light, it has 1 10 watt LED, impressive bit of kit.

Thats what I am wondering...its been very difficult to get real-world user info from sites on the web.

The 12" VisionX Reflex comes in at $549. The E-Series are about $240 per 6" light unit. Not bad when compared to the equivalent amount of spots required to get to the same light output.

But , and as you say, it all comes down to efficiency and whether they will throw light to complement (or beyond) the D3 main beams.

The Reflex can be got in 3 different light patterns - flood, Euro and spot. There is a quote of achieving a light spread of 35, 15 & 10 degrees.

Here's the link to the VisionX site http://www.visionxusa.com/LED-Reflex/c1_55/index.html

(And before anyone mentions the Patriot Series - they start at $2000 Shocked )

They will definitely score on the 8) factor...will without doubt score on the Evil or Very Mad factor with SWMBO...but you only live once... Laughing

But am I better off getting a pair each of LF170 and LF240 (or Roo Lite equiv) for light throw and spread - which I can pick up for less than the VisionX Reflex....

Decisions, decisions and more Censored decisions...

But I'm still looking for some serious input and feedback as to whether the LED's will be worth it Thumbs Up

At the risk of poo-pooing what sounds like a very cool little project, I think my money would definitely go on the above Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
