Lovely job Discoteca,
I'll be doing that once I get the bits gathered.
Do you have a link for the mini spade type diodes?
I'll go that route I think Stew,

Sloss there is a link to the in line diodes that I used earlier in the thread. The mini fuse type and mini fuse holders are available on the bay of e. I searched the bay for mini in line diode and came up with several sellers.

Well, it's worth a shot. I could always trace the pollution sensor back to the fuse panel and upgrade the wire, or put some inline fuses in?
Is the pollution sensor for the air recirc then (or should have been if it was used)
I have something similar in the BMW where you press an "auto" button near the air recirc and it detects pollutants in the air and automatically decides if fresh air or recirc should be used.
Thanks

Lucero the pollution sensor is used (as best I know) in Japanese markets for engine management purposes not climate control purposes.

I saw that link OK but, being lazy, I hoped there might be a link to the other ones......
I'm on it - honest Stew,

Oddly I couldn't find any reference to the pollution sensor wiring in the wiring diagrams when I looked because I also wanted to know exactly where it was fed from.

Sloss, these are the ones I would probably use next time round, other than the fact I've just noticed that they are only 1 amp. That might not be enough I thought I had seen the mini fuse type rated at 3 amp but don't seem to be able to find them at the moment:

Ordered 2x diodes for my mod. Let's see what happens!
Discoteca, in your picture of the made up loom, I'm unsure why the blue spads aren't the ones heading to the headlight as your "y" diagram suggests, the unconnected diode would join to the pollution sensory and the diode with the loom runs off to the tailight / main loom
In my head, as you have already said, I just need to pick up two wires from the single +ve on the pollution plug, add the diode in each line and then splice into the loom behind the head light (Red / Black left and Reb / Orange right)
Is that correct?

Lucero, I cut the wire at the back of the headlamp. In my last picture the blue connector with two wires going into it connects to the headlight, the coil of wire connects to the +ve on the pollution sensor and the remaining red connector goes to the other end of the wire that was cut (connected to the main car loom).
What you describe for the mod that you want (with tail lights) sounds exactly right. Remember that the diodes need to allow current to flow from the pollution sensor to the headlight (there is an arrow on the diodes to show which way the current is allowed to flow). My only words of caution would be (as I already said) that you will be running front, rear and number plate lights all from the pollution sensor and I don't know if that circuit is up to that load. Its not helpful that I can't find the pollution sensor wiring in the wiring diagrams so I can't work out what it is that actually supplies the +ve to it or how it is protected fuse wise. If it were me I think I would put a 5 amp inline fuse between where the two wires join and the pollution +ve feed just to be on the safe side. At least that way if the fuse blows you know you might have a problem and will have to think again but shouldn't have damaged anything. The pollution sensor wires are quite thin, maybe 0.5 or 0.75mm only so won't be up to much in terms of the load they can tolerate.
It's probable that the pollution sensor +ve is fused on a circuit that is used for other engine management functions. Overloading that wire might blow a fuse somewhere (that we don't currently know the location of) that will leave you with a car that won't start or run. That is why I would urge caution with your proposed solution. It worried me when I was just running the front LEDs from it so it should worry you more.

Discoteca,
Your logic is spot on for what I want ie the little fairy lights on with ignition to look pretty.
If I want rear lights on then I will do that or let the Auto function handle it.
I've already got mini blade holders, just looking for Diodes to fit or I'll just make up the looms as per your diagram/
Thanks for sharing Stew,

Yep, inline fuse for me then. I was going pollution sensor +ve to line fues, then "Y" split to each diode and on to each headlight.
What could go wrong!!!

Lucero - sounds perfect. Of course my mod was on a 2010, yours is a 2012 so just be careful they could be different!!

Thought I would add a few more pictures to assist if anyone else is considering this mod.
Here is taking the ignition switched +ve from the pollution sensor wiring

I used these to avoid cutting the wire, basically like a scotch lock that allows you to plug a male spade connector into the side. That way you can simply pull the connector out of you want to remove the mod and the wire hasn't been cut. I also just put a small bit of insulation tape over the spade just to protect it a bit. Here is the connector I used.

Here is the drivers side wire going from the front of the grill to behind the headlight
The view behind the drivers side headlight (I need to tidy this up, too much excess wire and will secure with some cable ties)
And finally the view from above the drivers side headlamp
Any reason this will not work on MY12? Fancy giving it a go, like the look of the signature just never think about putting sidelights on and when I do I forget to turn them off!

Don't see why not although don't believe it's been done yet on a 2012.
