Left Hand Drive Discovery 3 to Sweden |
|
Hello I just joined and would love to hear any advice on finding a left hand drive Discovery 3 - I am in the process of moving to Sweden so also interested in any thoughts on getting a Land Rover registered there. Is it possibly better to avoid registering the car in the UK if if bought from another country. I have seen one in Germany for e.g
Not sure if I can admit that I have a Range Rover L322 on this site? It is for sale now in order to get the Discovery.
Thanks in advance!
Richard

Hi (Richard?)
I'm living in North Sweden (originally from Australia) and am also looking at D3.
This site is probably the most widely used trading site in Sweden http://www.blocket.se
The following site shows requirements for importing/registering a car from within the EU.
http://www.transportstyrelsen.se/en/road/I...of-origin/
Annual tax for TDv6 is around 11,000 sek.
From what I can work out prices in Sweden are about 20% higher than purchasing an equiv' car in Germany.
(....of course any car privatley imported MUST have had the clock wound back !!) - not sure where that leaves you with warranty though.
Like chocolademan said you will need a set of winter tyres (& rims) - not sure if there are year round tyres available, but the tread depth for winter must be at least 5mm.
This link is for a Swedish newspaper written in English, check out the forums for more info on living in Sweden.

Maybe we can do a combined deal in Germany!!
Hope this helps...
Cheers
Chris

Thanks for your replies and links - very helpful!
11000 SEK Tax - that is a lot! would you know if a Particulate filter bring that down at all? The Discovery I am looking at in Germany has one apparently.
Ideally I would like to drive to Sweden from the UK when I do move. But if that means more work with registering the car etc might not be an option. Will keep you updated!
Combined deal in Germany not a bad idea! Could it be that we need Land Rovers to remind us of some heat in the bush?? (Originally from S Africa)
Why does the clock need to be wound back?

..... 'Clock wound back' sorry it was a little confusing!!
(Having a little dig at conservative Swedes!)
.....cars purchased from outside the country can't be trusted.... the mileage must have been tampered with!!
When you read Swedish car ads, they often state 'Svesksåld', which means the car was originally sold as a new vehicle in Sweden... gives the buyer confidence.
Your probably right about the sun!! Used to have a TD5 in West Oz....driving along the white sand...setting up shade, BBQ and going surfing with nobody else in sight!
Have just sold an Audi Allroad, nice car, but with 3 kids a dog and wanting to do long trips, it's too small. Need 7 seats to take kids & friends skiing etc. Found the allroad had the same problems as the Disco - air suspension compressor, air bags, cam belts, etc. Nice to have clearance up in the North as there can be heaps of snow & plenty of rough backroads over the mountains to Norway.
Watch out for people living in Norway.... don't leave your sheep unattended!! (eh chocolademan)

Bringing this back to cars!
Not going too well so far - have decided I need to register it here in the UK before taking it there if I buy it while still living here so it may be that I buy one in Sweden when I get there or Germany..... Still got to sell my Range Rover though and it is slow going! There are too many of them here!

Another option if you wish.
If you buy a car from The Netherlands and export it to an EU country you can get some taxes back.
Requirements are:
1 Has to be registered on 16 October 2006 or later.
2 The car has to be exported to a EU country, which should be fine for sweden.
Example1:
This 07MY http://link.marktplaats.nl/537541220
Asking price 30k
Amount of money you can get back according to this calculator: http://www.vwe-netherlands.com/Export/Tax-...xport.aspx
Refunded: 5.7k
Final price 24.3k
Exampl2:
This Discovery 4 10MY http://link.marktplaats.nl/530988763
Asking price 80k
Amount of money you can get back according to calculator:
Refunded 21.7k
Final price 58.3k
Do note that if the car is newer you get more of the tax back. My mini defender (work in progress)

That's interesting IKke....
Just did a quick comparison on mobil.de on a similar vehicle (07) with similar km's, they are asking around 24k.
Same price - different process?
I guess the good thing about buying from the Netherlands is that vehicles have only been driven on flat terrain?

Yes, I have a MY08 in Sweden with DPF which is appr SEK 9000 yearly tax. You can also register it as a light truck to get a further tax reduction. But you would then need to remove the rear seats and add a load space divider etc.

yeah, we don't travel abroad from here so it's just up and down the dikes
On a more serious note I cannot imagine this having a great effect on the vehicle. Character (from the UK) has covered a gazillion miles in his D3 so far in the UK, although I think he has replaced a part or two in the process.
Sorry, could not resist.
