Weren’t the front ones cracked originally? Confused

Yes indeed.

Now it’s the rears, but this time I found a technical bulletin relating to rear light cracks. They believe everything is that tightly fitted to the Velar, for aerodynamics, that any body movement is causing stress fractures.

Bloody hell, they go from one extreme to another. One minute there are panel gaps in the Defender bigger than the Panama Canal, now the lack of panel gaps in the Velar are causing stress fractures in the lights.

Looking for a happy medium in the new Defender perhaps!!!! Whistle

Well, picked my new Velar up 2 weeks ago, wasn't sure which way to go?, wanted RRS. but couldn't justify extra cost, wasn't sure about D5, son complained about lack of support in back seat, and residuals were a lot better on Velar, so decided to try Velar. do miss driving position of D4 and space is smaller but do like sportier driving style, went with 275 HSE, must say impressed with performance and economy, So time will tell.

Not updated this for a while.

Went back over to Applcross yesterday, this time the weather was more agreeable so I was actually able to see the views from the top.

Again though the Velar didn’t disappoint as a long distance cruiser. This was probably it’s last big trip before the new Defender.

The view from the top

On the way up

Compare it with March

She enjoyed it though, an effort to try and stop her pulling me in to Loch Cluanie Laughing

2 year PCP, so January I’ll have to make a decision either way. The new Defender will, hopefully, give me more for less.

I’ve had

1 D3
3 Fl2s
2 D4s
1 DS
1 Evoque
1 D5

We’re as well crossing another one off the list.

Is there a sub conscious ranking there?.. Whistle

I’d swap the FL2 and the D4, but where would you put the Velar? Very Happy

I’ve spent all night thinking about where I’d place each one and I really don’t know. Well I know which one would be bottom, and no it’s not the D5 Laughing

I think it would be

Purely based on driver enjoyment and it’s looks it takes the top spot

I prefer the look of the D3 and it was my first LR, but prefer the D4s 3.0 and 8 speed box, and my Blue D4 was my first brand new Disco. So I think the D4 would take 2nd place, just. With the D3 3rd.

Then Fl2, it was a good all rounder. Doesn’t set your pulse racing but it’s a dependable vehicle.

Followed by the D5, a good car in its own right, perhaps not the Disco that we all expected, myself included but for me it was still a highly capable all rounder but just lacks that something but I’m not sure what.

Then the Evoque, looks fab but for me it was just a bit too compact, and just lacked that Range Rover finesse.

And the DS, nice size but the interior is terrible, feels really cheap, and the ride is awful. I’ve yet to try a new one as these are areas that’s apparently been improved.

I think that’s how I’d place them, but then if I were to base it on reliability then Fl2 would be top and Velar bottom, and then we could go on to model years, and well, I could have a whole new thread on that.

Interesting, though I’m a bit unsure which one’s in first place.

Interesting also to see the FL2 doing so well, especially against the DS

Agree with the D3 comments; it was certainly a more emotive experience when buying from new than the D4 was.
But the D4 is more evolved and therfore a better vehicle than the D3 was.

Thanks Thumbs Up

I’ve never driven a Velar, so I can’t comment, but I’d agree on all the others (even if the D3 is better looking and has a more practical interior than the ‘4!).
