Discovery 4 to Q7

Has anyone made the move from a Discovery 4 to a Q7?

Considering this at the moment , interested to hear if anyone else has done so, or the other way and why?

Not moved, but had a Q7 as a hire car for 3 weeks my Disco 3 was being repaired, lovely car, but found the ride very hard, even in comfort mode compared to the Disco 3

I went from Audi to LR.

The Audi was quicker, gearbox smoother, handled through bends better, was more economical, the reclining seats in second row and 2nd row space in general much better than LR4, the car was more reliable and dealer service light years ahead of LR.

LR4 is more comfortable (Audi ride v harsh), seats more comfortable, driving position is great, 3rd row seats have more legroom and the overall boot capacity and design is better. Off-road the LR4 knocks spots off the Audi.

One other thing, the Audi ate tyres- 10 to 14k for a set of fronts was not unusual.

Despite all this, I prefer the LR4- I just wish the dealership was as good as Audi....

Wifes on her 4th Audi and apart from the current one, an Allroad the ride was terrible on all the prvious ones, all 3.0tdi models all auto and all at least 35mpg with 53mpg being the record after being stuck in 50mph roadworks for an age.

The trick to a nice ride is to A get the low spec wheels ie not silly big and with decent sidewall height and B make sure its on air which Im assuming all the Q7s are?

I currently own a 13 3.0 TDI V6 Q7. It is my third Audi (fifth VAG product), and I can't stand it. I bought it in July of last year and drove it until October when I picked up the D3 I had been hesitating on buying. I've had it for sale since early November and have only gotten one serious offer - I think people realize how bad these things are.

Compared to the A6's I've had the build quality is terrible. The ride is terrible, the performance is terrible... it's a poorly designed SUV. And it is less of an SUV and more of a large car.

I don't know if the 2015+ is better but I can't wait to be rid of mine.

As a rough rule in the UK anything will sell if the price is right, many things dont sell and its always because the owner thinks they are worth more money than they really are.

Thanks for all the replies, especially the mini review.

Will definitely be thorough on the test drive, had a look around and round a nice rough/bumpy/potholed bit of road that should show it up well.

The only thing wrong with Audi is it's a German car. I give the German car industry nothing.

There is a gent we often see in France towing a caravan. He has had Q7's but last time I saw him he had a D4, his thoughts were simila to what has been posted, Q7 drove better in many senses faster better through the bends, but in his view the D4 was a better all round package and certainly better for towing a large TA caravan

I have gone from a D4 to a Q7 albeit not directly. The Q7 is a fab car, not as roomy inside as the D4 but faster and certainly better on fuel (currently averaging 36-38mpg with the q7)

Obviously nowhere near as good offoad but much nicer on the road on all but badly potholed roads. Mine has 21" alloys which don't help the ride but its still not bad. Mine is a 2014 model s line plus

If the D4 was still being made and LR had addressed the reliability issues i would no doubt still have one as i still consider them the best all round car you can get Thumbs Up
