Light bulbs when a broad
I know we are expected to carry a spare set of bulbs and know how to change them when travelling abroad.Now I am pretty handy with the spanners but on my new to me Discovery D4 I would not have a clue how to change a bulb.Now my main question is do we need special bulbs for a disco ( I believe we do )and can we buy a kit with bulbs as I did for my D2 ? where can I get that kit ? I would get breakdown cover to the change bulbs.
What most people do is carry any old set of spare bulbs because on many cars they could not access the headlights to fit the spare bulbs anyway. There is no rule or regulation that says cars must be built so that drivers can replace the bulbs.

In my experience if you are stopped by the police because of a failed bulb & can show them spares they won't fine you. They don't wait to see whether you fit a replacement then & there - they have better things to do.

Just be aware that that wouldn’t be classed as a breakdown in their eyes, bit like the radio not working. Check the T&Cs carefully, they all (well the ones I’ve used) have clauses saying these sort of things aren’t covered. Besides there isn’t a single bulb on the D3/4 that you can’t change in less than a few minutes in a service station or rest stop (would be stupid to do it at the side of the Mway or road), as long as you have the right bulbs.
Just to add, should you want to buy the "genuine" JLR spare bulb & fuze kit it is part number VPLAV0018, and available from the usual sources, such as Advanced Factors & Duckworths.

Thanks all I will take bubs for the D2.To be honest we have travelled to France many many times hardly ever see the police.Hope it stays that way

From what I’ve seen Les Rossers Francais only bother with peeps if they have a heavy right foot. They do love pulling over speeding Brits.

Yes and I always keep exactly to the limit especially in little sleepy French Villages

And beware or what looks like a broken down car with its boot open on the hard shoulder of the Autoroutes, though by the time you’ve seen le Gendarme is saying “vous et knicked mon fils”.
And abandoned trailer on the hard shoulder of the autobahn in Germany, that issued a red flash as you pass.
