Only thing that annoys me about the rotary is the delay to pop up when I'm in a rush. Other than that it's absolutely fine. Not sure why the car has flappy paddles other than being a gimmick though?

Off road they are excellent. Onroad and/or towing if you want to use engine braking they are perfect. Driving round country roads in sport mode also can make the car more responsive..

I would agree with Canburne, off road they are great as you can change gear without taking your hands off the wheel Cheers Ian

I had never driven an automatic until buying the D4. Unfortunately manual was not available or I would have bought one. Driving manuals for fifty seven years you feel completely in control of what is going on. Happy days stirring the gearbox of the IIa with its 8 high forward and 8 low forward gears including overdrive with a floppy gearstick. However I am now a complete convert to automatics. I love the rotary control and have no problems knowing it's position. SWMBO now has a CVT Jazz with stick control and I find it a nuisance with this appendage stuck in the middle of the cab.2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. It's odd that, I swore that I'd never have an automatic as well!
Mind you, the Disco's unit is nothing like traditional autos, where it always felt like a manual with 3 gears and a nearly dead clutch! 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2

You’re going to be so upset if the rotary dial popped up unexpectedly.
Looks good for fish & chips though.

Fries!! They can get into all the nooks & crannies. The burger is going to be easily recoverable, just grab & scoop up the sauce.

See in the D5 there is a square cubby, the fries fit in there, and the burger fits in the cubby hole under the heating controls. And they said Gerry never put any thought into it 23.5MY Defender 90 X-Dynamic SE D250 MHEV Pangea Green

I see you have overcome your early problem about lack of a curry hook. Gone over to decent food that fits in the car. 2014 MY Discovery XS Indus Silver. Sadly gone. Second last LR of forty eight years continuous ownership.
