A little advice, PLEASE... |
|
Hi Guys,
I've tried to post in "Faults and Fixes" to no avail....
I have a few recent issues with my SE 07 with just 30K on the clock....
1: Had some paintwork done when I bought it and now there are bubbles under the rubber trim that seals the window..
2: Ball joints changed when purchased but noticed lately driving on potholed roads a metallic clunk through the steering wheel.
3: Open the drivers window at any level and it rattles like hell...
Last but not least, squealing from a rear disc. Over the last couple of days my pool van has been given up to extra staff and I have been motorwaying it since in my D3. Today a light squeal started and it got progressively louder, dabbing the brake pedal stops it.
Stopping and putting on the EPB, then releasing it only stops it for a short time. Arriving home the offending disc was extremely hot.
Called Hatfields and the earliest they can get me in is the 28th....
To be honest they have been spot on in the past with warranty work, I just hope all of this is covered....
Any thoughts.....Please..

Just before winter this happened to me too.
I turned out all the crap gathered by the brake parts would not allow the brake of the right rear wheel (sorry I don't get that O/S/R or N/S/R stuff) to be fully released.
Technician took off the wheel, removed brake pads, cleaned the bunch and put back together. Problem solved.
Sorry I can't help you on the other points.

(1) Bubble in the window trim is not unusual. My MY07 has it on both sides. I ignore it.
(2) Clunky front is not unusual, although not having heard your noise, who knows whether "metallic" means a fault. I'd guess not.
(3) Drivers window sounds like it's faulty.
(4) Your EPB seems to be binding. I'd recommend getting it fixed as soon as you can.
If you need a service and some work doing I'd recommend 10forcash, who's a forum member on here. He's an independent who will drive to you to do a service and sort other jobs. See his profile for contact details. Use e-mail, not PM.

Warranty fairies ran out of EPB magic a few years after LR realised the design was prone to be "in need of adjustment". Although the design is poor (as is well documented on this site) the EPB can be adjusted so that it is reliable. It just takes a bit of care. 10forcash sorted mine out a while ago and I can now use it with confidence - which I could not do before he fixed it.

The bubbling is just the metal inside the rubber strip corroded not the paint work very easy to sort only held in by 1 torx screw on inside of door towards the hinges, prise out from inside so you dont accidently damage paint work, very cheap ,however if still under warranty get them to sort

Well, it went in yesterday and I had the "joy" of a brand new FL....All I can say on that point is: The D3 steering wheel just don't look right on this car but the brakes are very good....
Right down to the repairs of should I say lack of them...
Steering rack/bushes....Couldn't find any problem.
Bubbles under the window trim....Not covered.
Drivers window rattle is trim.....Not covered.
Squealing rear brake....Badly worn pads, replaced with sensors...That will be 190 odd pounds please sir.....
Now I checked the pads out last week when it was up on a ramp at our grease monkeys who does our vans and they had plenty on. Now if they would of said the caliper was sticking and do you want the pads doing while it's here, I prolly would of said yes.
They play a canny game, there's a really nice girl who tells you all the things you don't want to hear and you can't kick off on her, so I collared the nearest man. They will tell me in the morning if the window is covered, if not I'm back in there first thing and I will not hold back.....

Did you take the wheels off to check the pads? Could be an inner pad has worn down and the outer pads have more life left.

Zarnd,
Funny thing is, she told me that the rear pads require replacement and then asks where is the locking wheel nut thingy..
Hey ho, brakes feel solid and up to now no screeching...
I was looking around at the Independents and the price they charged doesn't seem too bad, I think...
