London Low Emission Zone Consultation

Red Ken has now put his consultation for the LEZ online.

Can I urge you all to respond with your comments?

interesting that in Q13, SUVs (4x4s) are specifically singled out as a vehicle type for the LEZ applying to. I smell the smell of greenpi$$. Evil or Very Mad

Have done so. The mayor by law has to consult unfortunately he has the option of completely ignoring the results of any consultation. It's just a furthher waste of money. This Mayor will always fall back on the fact that he was voted in by the people of London who knew his agenda. If 100% disagreed with this he would still do what he wants to do. The problem with politics is that you vote for a person some of whos policies you might agree with, some you don't - you cann't pick and choose what policies you agree with. The voters choice is limited that is why I feel we need the 'None of the above' option - this would show the powers how totally dissatisfied we are with all politicians.

Not exactly... it also lists diesel and petrol cars.

I notice that black cabs are not listed though... and these are not public transport but private.

Can see where your coming from though... could be a way into further increasing the tax on driving into ones capitol city.

just happened to get interested briefly in the US local elections !!! it seems in some states they get to vote seperately on very specific pieces of proposed legislation, ....really sensible & democratic for such a Shocked up country......our country could do worse than look at that system, but of course democracy may interfere with taxation.....

'Not exactly... it also lists diesel and petrol cars.'

no - my point is it lists SUV's as a specific group of cars - if it was a fair and balaced survey it should list all groups of cars like - sports cars, people carriers, ice cream vans, not JUST SUV's as a grouping.

see you point now. but a car is not an SUV so that is 'correct'. but yes should really just say 'other petrol / diesel' vehicles or list all body types.

Mind you, the DVLA list my vehicle as body type 'estate' so maybe TfL should us official DVLA descriptions.

Am I mssing something but isn't this targetting busses and lorries?

Quote:
From 2008, the Low Emission Zone would target the most polluting diesel-engine heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), buses and coaches. From 2010, the Low Emission Zone would target heavier vans and minibuses. These would have to comply with the Low Emission Zone emissions standards in order to drive in London without charge. Both UK registered and non-UK registered vehicles would have to comply with the Low Emission Zone. It would also apply to some private vehicles such as some horse boxes and some motorhomes. It is proposed that a small number of vehicle types would be exempt from the scheme.

I've told him where to stuff it though on the form! Wink

My 'extra comment' was :-

Quote:
Why have you excluded Taxis from Q13?

Why in question 13 have you singled out SUVs (4x4s) when you already have Diesel Cars and Petrol Cars? Do you know of a special 4x4 which doesn't run on Petrol or Diesel? If so, please let me know?

Your list is very unscientific - what is your definition of a 4x4?...a Fiat Panda has a 4x4 variant...do you mean that to? Why have you not included 'Black Cab' afterall there are some 20,000 of those dirty, overpriced, arrogantly driven vehicles in town.

You do all of course realise that this is not just confined to the CC zone? He is proposing to charge virtually the whole of the area inside the M25!

And if he gets his way, or as is more likely, ignores the consultation, this will include "SUVs" and eventually non-Type IV diesel engines.

We are sleepwalking into a disaster here.

Luckily, despite what Ken may think, there are large areas inside the M25 that do not fall within his realm

So one man's bias against a particular 'type' of vehicle is going to cost drivers dearly. BTW Ken, did you know just the Chinese are registering 1000 vehicles PER DAY onto their roads......so what you are doing is patently worthless in terms of global pollution & questionable for local pollution, as we all know 4x4's are all different on emission capacity. Have commented on this in the 'consultation'.
