How long does your red oil light stay on...

when you start the car? I've noticed that it seems to be staying slightly longer every time I use the car. From cold this morning, I started the car, all warning lights out except the red oil light which stayed on for approximately 4 seconds - is this normal? I read the warning light as oil pressure, not level.

Hopefully, someone will be able to tell me to shut-up and that I'm being daft and it is normal. I had a quick search and there don't seemt o be any threads on this subject either.

Also, when does the compass work?

Car is an 07 HSE with 27k on the clock.

cheers

When you go through the start sequence, key to position 1...............All the light incl glow plug light comes on, once glow plug light dissappears you can start, the OIL pressure light will take a few extra seconds to go out because it needs to have pressure from a cranking/running engine to go out.

If it goes out, you are fine Thumbs Up

I also have MY07 and the oil light stays on for aboiut 1/2 a second after starting the engine. A) when did you get an oil change b) when did you last check/top up the oil c) do you have any oil leaks d) The Compass will work when you put the sat nav into Off Road Mode Thumbs Up

I only bought the car last month, and it was last serviced in September 2009 at 19,999 miles. I will check the oil level today.

Glad everything seems to be normal then!

cheers

Worth checking oil level reasonably regularly as these engines can use oil, although mostly in 1st year or two of life.

Quite normal Thumbs Up

If starting the engine every day the oil light seems to go out straight away once started , but if very cold or engine not started for a few days then it takes about 3 seconds for mine to go out Thumbs Up

If my car faces uphill - the light stays on for a few seconds and the system gives a warning "Boing" However leave it parked facing downhill - No "boing" Its done that from day one so I don't worry now! (and tend to park it facing downhill) When its parked on the flat its ok too.

Checking the oil is a joke in these things! I've tried all ways to get an accurate reading - without success.
The dipstick seems to wipe /smudge as it comes out. The only indication is there is either a little or a lot of oil down the hole!
