Loss of power at startup

Just had this message sent to me from my Aunt who has been driving the D3 over the weekend and notices, after starting the car in the morning, that there is a loss of power until you get going. To use her own words:

Quote:
The Discovery (yet again) has a problem. It has
no power when we set off first thing. It was SOOOO bad on Sat when we left
to go to Archerfield. I honestly thought we weren't going to get there! I
reversed to the garage, put my foot to the floor and couldn't get the car
to move [it's a steep uphill driveway]. Eventually it crept up the hill and out of the drive, but it was
touch and go. That was the worst but I must confess I'm not pulling out in
front of things, incase I simply don't make it.
Help! Any good ideas? Clearly we'll need to get it seen to, but ideas....?

I've had a search but there doesn't seem to be a clear solution.

Thanks

EGR Valves Thumbs Up

Sounds like the exact same problem I had with my old one.

The obvious one that springs to mind is the EGR valves, closely followed by the turbo (although the latter would usually be accompanied by lots of smoke out the back).

If its only when cold, but fine when warm, then it could be a faulty temp sensor somewhere. Could be a split turbo hose, but that would be all the time.

Years ago, on a couple of starts, I'd get a weird low-power thing similar to that which you're describing - like the turbo had gone. I put it down to not letting the D3 go through its pre-flight checks and that I was turning the key too soon. Never had the problem since I started to give it a couple of seconds after all the lights on the dash have gone out? Perhaps she's starting it too quickly?

Is all the plumbing up and into the airbox connected?
I had mine become disconnected from behind the radiator!
I didn't even have the power to reverse out of my driveway!

It's at its very worst early in the morning. Also when setting off at the start of a journey less power can be felt. No error messages are appearing on the readout screen.

Sounds like it could be EGR? Thanks for your replies. Will let you know what the garage say.

Yep sounds like the EGR valves, had the same on mine, both have been replaced at different times under warrenty. Switching off the engine and restarting often cured the problem somehow be resetting the electronics. Smile

I don't think the pre MY07 D3s give errors if the EGRs are knackered.... Thumbs Up
